Rating: Summary: Re: "Complete and Utter Idiot" Review: The reference to the individual who was called a "complete and utter idiot" is way off base. While the reader that gave the book "one star" is perfectly entitled to their opinion, I would venture to guess that s/he does work where s/he is rewarded by the faceless corporate world s/he defends so adamantly. Unfortunately, the book's message that s/he too is simply, metaphorically speaking, a red blood cell in the beast's machine, easily expendible and destroyed at a millisecond's hesitation, did not ring home.Korten's analysis of the economic system is accurate and informing, myself being a student of economics and currently employed in a major financial institution. Having been schooled in economic thought, and seeing the greed and unaccounability that he describes coherently and adequately, I must espouse to be an advocate of reform. Is the reviewer who attacked the book a "complete and utter idiot?" Again, no. Perhaps a better descri! ption would be "Selfish, greedy, undereducated, bought, packaged, and distributed unit, compliments of the power elite and socially unaccountable Multinational Corporations?" As to that description of the reviewer, I would venture so far as to say, "Most Definitely."
Rating: Summary: Excellent. A must read for anyone with a conscience. Review: This is an excellent book that crosses political lines in contemporary America. Both the left-wing idealist and the right-wing GENUINE free market advocate will sober quickly upon reading. Those who espose to be advocates of the free market as Adam Smith championed it will do well to read it, as it may change their minds on where we stand currently in relation to free markets, efficient resource allocation, and just how far we are from the pure competitive model.
Rating: Summary: This book will surpass the "Keynesian Revolution"... Review: If you want to understand what's wrong with the current global economic picture, then READ THIS BOOK!! Dr Korten has achieved an extraordinary task: writing a book that is both accessible to the public while posing an unprecented challenge to the economics profession as a whole to admit its central failure to serve mankind instead of corporations. It is authorative, fully documented and a work of art. I write this as a past teacher of economics (now turned programmer) who had given up on the economics profession; Dr. Korten gives me new hope for the future.
Rating: Summary: A primer for activists, academics and concern citizens Review: David Korten tell-it-as-it-is approach is paradoxically fresh in these times of a global consensus on crushing the poor, repressing the disenfranchised and silencing the embarassing. Korten is truly an insider talking from the heart of the beast. It does not matter what's your piece of the canvas: feminism, environmentalism, racism, classism...Korten deals with all of that and plenty more. He has no ax to grind, nor he spares space on shallow issues of the current left. The only thing missing from this book is an open critic of the current system of exploitation, but that is yours to decide and find.
Rating: Summary: An Excellent Analysis of the World Economic Situation. Review: While I found Mr. Korten's proposed solution a bit utopian, his analysis of the global economic situation is right on the mark. Anyone who believes "globalization" is good for humanity should read this book.
Rating: Summary: absolutely fascinating and terrifyingly real Review: I thought I was a lunatic until I read Mr. Korten's devastating expose of the logical contradictions that are swallowed whole by so called market economists. I hope this book NEVER goes out of print! I want the ditto-heads to CHOKE on this book.
Rating: Summary: A must-read book Review: This is one of the greatest non-fiction books that I have had the priviledge of reading. Korten , more than any other author, reveals the inane logic of global capitalism. I can only hope that Korten reaches a wide-enough audience to educate those who blindly place their faith in the "invisible hand", or as I see it, the "visible fist."
Rating: Summary: The book is an inane anti-capitalist diatribe Review: The book is a piece of inane tripe. I will not dignify it with any further analysis or comments. What does in my opinion warrant comment is that Amazon allows a reviewer to refer to an earlier reviewer as "a complete and utter idiot", especially when he totally fails to understand that the allegedly idiotic comments are actually sarcasm by someone whose position agrees with his own. What happened to enforcing the review guidelines?
Rating: Summary: Everyone should read this book! Review: There are many writers who attempt to expose the criminality of the present world order. However, Korton's book not only presents the vital information, it also provides plans of action. It is too easy to look at the situation and dispair. The apathy and denial which infects most citizens of the U.S. is primarily the result of an unremitting propaganda campaign... a campaign of disinformation. "When Corporations Rule the World" is a book that presents the truths that have been hidden from us. If anyone want to know where to start... when it comes to "saving the world", this is a place to start. I hope that this book can begin a dialogue which I can be a part of. Send your thoughts via E-mail.
Rating: Summary: Don't read this book! Review: It is very important that this book not receive wide circulation, or at least not be widely believed. General acceptance of its argument that globalist materialism and its corporate perpetuators are dangerous to humanity could challenge the prevailing distribution of power. Don't let it happen. Remember: Bigger IS better. More IS good. Globalism IS superior to localism. Resources ARE unlimited. He or she who dies with the most toys DOES win. These things are true, aren't they? Don't let Korten and his ilk weaken your faith
