Summary: Pretty good...
Review: Now, the PCAT as I see it, is basically a useless test which I hope will someday die a horrible, horrible death. In the meantime, I think this book really helped with getting to know the overall format. I do have to agree with a previous reviewer; the reading comprehension wasn't nearly as hard as the actual test. However, everything was relatively similar. Heck, I even found a question very similar to one in the guide on the test. I highly suggest buying this book. It really prepares you pretty well.

Summary: Helped me a ton
Review: One complaint, the verbal section is different on the real test. The analogies are the same, but the instead of antonyms, the actual test uses fill in the blank sentence completion. The other sections are pretty good though. Combined with one offical PCAT practice test I scored in the 93rd percentile (got my scores today).

Summary: give and take only some!!!
Review: TERRIBLE!! I bought this book based on previous reviews, thinking that it should be good in prepareing me for the PCAT. Overall, the verbal, chem, and bio sections were pretty good. Reading and Quantitative were TERRIBLE. The questions on the actual test were significantly harder than ones here. The Reading questions on the actual tests were more "thinking" questions than matters of finding answers word for word in the beginning of every paragraph (as this book misleads you to think). I would recommend you using your old SAT books or MCAT books to study for this Reading section. Or just read a lot of good magazines, ie. New Yorker, Times...etc.

Summary: Seems like the best book right now.
Review: The book might have some flaws, but it seems that it is the best book out there. This seems to be the consensus after reading several reviews on several different web sites. However, this book is not very helpful on what to review. It gives you basic outlines - "learn everything in biology, chemistry, etc." Don't buy the book so that someone can tell you to study everything. Pay me the $10 instead.

The book comes with several test which are fairly helpful. I had no idea what to expect on the PCAT. I have been out of school for several years and don't have any resources that a typical college student might. I did read many reviews, and to sum it all up - Buy this book, take the practice tests. Supplement your learning with Cliff's biology, chemistry, etc. Don't bother practicing reading comprehension. Don't know the best way to study for math either, but for me, a couple practice tests to get into the swing of things helps. Like I said, I haven't been in school for quite a while. I never even took a BIO class in college. I, however, did do very well, thanks to this book and Cliff's reviews. Good Luck.

Summary: helpful, but not what I had hoped for
Review: The practice tests helped me get used to the format for the test, but I was disappointed there wasn't much of a review of test material. For the Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension tests, I recommend digging out an old SAT prep book. Overall, I think the best thing you can do is take as many practice tests as possible.

Summary: Good book.
Review: This book helped a lot. The outlines are very useful and give you a good idea of what to study. I just took the PCAT today and several of the questions in the book were on the test. If you study this book and the outline you will have an advantage. I do not regret buying and studying this book.

Summary: PCAT
Review: This book is great for familiarizing yourself with the format of the PCAT and the outlines for each section are helpful. There are plenty of practice questions, but I found several answers that were incorrect. Moreover, the biology section was quite a bit off. (It didn't mention anything about immunology, microbiology or ecology.) Both the math and reading comprehension sections were over-simplified in this guide as compared to the real test questions. The vocabulary and chemistry sections were the "truest to form" in terms of the real test!

Overall, I would recommend this book as a way to prepare yourself for the format and the chemistry section of the test. If you are weak in math and biology, I would recommend finding alternative guides.

Summary: Not recomanded
Review: This book is over rated, I think it only deserve a 3 star because it's all prep test questions in the book and it's a lot easier than the actual test, it does help but not as much.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Good if only option
Review: This book provided the minimal amount of information for the PCAT. In particular, the math review section and practice test sections had very simple math compared to the actual PCAT. Also, a few questions in the practice tests were repeated later in the same test. There is no all inclusive review either, only an outline of what is needed. I found this book helpful, but only to the point to get a general idea of the test layout, not of the actual test material. If there is another option, I would use it next time. If Kaplan makes a book, use theirs.

Summary: Great prep book!
Review: This book was a great preparation for the PCAT! The questions were quite similar to the ones on the March 2002 exam. I thought the verbal questions in the book seemed easy (compared to the verbal questions on the SAT and GRE), but they were just as easy on the exam itself. Although not a good review book per se, it definitely gives an idea of what the questions themselves on the test are like as far as difficulty is concerned. I bought this and the ARCO book together and found them to be helpful. For reviewing information, I highly recommend the Cliff's Notes Quick Review series. I bought the Biology review and it was VERY helpful! Between these three books, I managed a composite score of 99 on my PCAT! Pharmacy school, here I come!!
