Rating: Summary: The two kinds of people who hate my book. Review: With more than 400,000 copies of Bears' Guide in print, needless to say it has produced a vast number of comments. There are two kinds of people who hate this book. At least one of each is represented here. One is the person who has a degree from a dreadful (my opinion) school, and hates the fact that I don't say it is wonderful. The other is the fossil who cannot accept that the world has changed, and it really is possible to earn excellent degrees entirely by home study. Two ends of the spectrum, I guess. Incidentally, I *have* visited most of the "less than wonderful" schools I describe in the book, although, in truth, the majority turn out to be mailbox rental stores, not college campuses. Don't hesitate to Email me if you'd like my views on any particular school, before you order my book.
Rating: Summary: Times are changing Review: Wonderful NON-Traditional resource. The field of education is now growing and adapting to the needs of the people. We are no longer content to sit on the sidelines moaning about the sorry state of education in America. There are alternatives, and "alternative" is not a bad word. (Read John Taylor Gatto's "Dumbing Us Down" to get a real idea of the sorry state of education in the public schools). With the advent of the computer there are endless possibilities. We can no longer afford to look at education in the same way.To the Cowboy below: There are TWO Bears, Sherlock. That's why the title IS spelled correctly.
