Summary: Classroom Teacher's Survival Guide
Review: Excellent book. If you are a new teacher and can afford only one how-to-survive-teaching book, buy this one. Dr. Partin provides us with neatly organized sections on classroom management, successful lesson plans, homework strategies, effective parent-teacher interaction, creative use of classroom time and much more. Each section includes a helpful bibliography of additional information. He also includes a wonderful section on use of the Internet as a teaching resource. I love this book and have recommended it to my preservice friends. Thanks Dr. Partin! You know your stuff and share it generously.

Summary: Too much is really too little
Review: I agree with the second review of this book. I spent 4 years reading textbooks in order to understand the philosophy, discipline, and economics of teaching, and didn't need another now that I'm actually a new teacher. What I hoped for was a practical handbook with easy references, quick tips, and thorough information readily available to me before, during, and after my school day, and this book was simply too cumbersome to utilize in that way. Some information regarding classroom management I found to be questionable at worst, lacking at best. There are better resources out there, so skip this one.

Summary: Good Book with lots of neat ideas
Review: I am a 2nd grade teacher. I have found that this books has given me lots of great ideas. When you are first starting out as a teacher you forget all those little things that you might need or others have suggested. This book puts it all together. I have sticky notes ALL over this book. I am very pleased with what is has said.

Summary: Good Book with lots of neat ideas
Review: I got this book even though I saw some negative reviews. I'm still happy I got the book, but it definitely is not worth what I paid for it.

I'm a student teacher, and 90% of the stuff in this book is either common sense or stuff I've learned a hundred times before, so I just skimmed through most of it.

Many of the Internet sites it suggests as resources were no longer working, but a few were pretty good. The reproducibles were not very impressive, and I wouldn't use them, except they did give me a few ideas for ones I can make myself. The organization of the book was terrible. I was holding myself back from just sitting down with scissors and glue to rearrange everything into a more usable format. There were even a lot of typos, screwed up formatting, and repeated words and phrases that I was surprised made it past the proofreader (guaranteed to drive English teachers crazy).

Overall, I would say that it has the right idea about what a teacher needs, but it needs some work. Buy this book if you really just want some extra ideas to draw from. If you're looking for a guide to teaching, skip this book and hang out in a few different classrooms with a variety of teachers for a couple of years.

Summary: A repertoire of great ideas for the new or experienced teach
Review: I would recomend this to any other teacher who can read. I am a new teacher myself and need some help here and there (oh there I go humoring myself again, I need help all the time)and this book sugests how to handel everyday problems and many other necessary things!! I love the part labeled "coping with the Daily Stresses of Teaching" and it also tells information like getting parents involed which can be terribly hard to get going!! It has many good reproducibles that can be used anytime!!! I also just can't get over how well the spiral-bound book is so easy to tote! I again would recomend this to any teacher that can read!!!!!!! To sum it is I feel I don't need to say more than "Great Book"!!

Summary: A deatiled book for use only on an "as needed" basis.
Review: I'm very disappointed in this book, although some information IN it is valuable, it will take a long time to read the entire book cover to cover. It is an excellent Textbook but not a handy guide to flip to on a regular basis and find ideas for what you need. Although broken into sections, they are not readily found or visible. One must search the information needed as in a research assignment. The reproducibles are MAINLY for elementary grades. This was not stated in the very short and brief summary of it's contents, on-line. Although the price was reasonable, I'm not pleased with the way the book is organized & printed.
