Summary: Useful, but at times discouraging
Review: The first half of this book is largely another rehash of all the reasons NOT to go to grad school. I appreciate his honesty, but if you're trying to make up your mind whether or not to go, this book will depress you beyond belief (having successfully completed a program, why is he so bitter?). Once you decide, however, there is lots of practical advice for navigating the maze of grad school.

Summary: I should have bought it earlier!
Review: This book is very useful for anyone considering grad school. Things are quite different from undergrad, right from the courses to interaction with the profs. I have learnt many things through experience and seeing them in the book made me think "I made a mistake in not buying it in the first sem"

Summary: PERFECT FOR DECISION MAKING AND MORE
Review: This is the guide you need to read before deciding on anything about your graduate education. You will ask yourself what you want to do indeed, where you want to go, what you should consider and much more. The answers are also in the book. Once you read it you'll notice that you'll read it over and over in all your life.

Review: Very informative, well-writtenl book; and I have many friends who also found it helpful.

Summary: Don't loan this book to your friends - you won't get it back
Review: This book is so wonderfully useful and easy to read, so intelligently tailored to the potential needs of the reader, that I recommended it not only as a source of information about graduate school, but also as a model of communication and customer orientation. The only problem is, I haven't seen it once since I lent it out three months ago...

Summary: Must buy this book! Blunt, practical, and humorous.
Review: After buying this book, I make sure that I review it throughout my graduate career. It makes me constantly reassess my reasons for going to grad school and make sure that I am running with the pack. This is one of the best self-help manuals I own and I recommend it to everyone from college juniors to career changing professionals. It provides good, simple, and practical advice to those considering an advanced degree.

Summary: Wouldn't have made any progress without it!
Review: This book saved me! That is all there is to it. I will be holding on to this book throughout grad school.

Summary: Excellent and thought-provoking!
Review: I would urge anyone considering graduate school of any kind to purchase this book. I'm s senior in college and knew I wanted to go to graduate school, but i didn't know where. This book convinced me to take some time off before I make such immense decisions as pursuing a Ph.D. or law degree. Please, anyone who whi considering a Ph.D. in the social sciences or humanities, purchase this book before going.

Summary: A Must Have for Ordinaly Grad Students
Review: I wish I had met this book when I started grad. school! Fortunately, now that I am toward the end of the program (I believe...), I find the book still *very* useful and informative. It encourages us that we can survive and succeed. It helps us complete effectively and efficiently. If you do not think you know everything about grad. school and academic world, and I believe none of us do, then you will greatly benefit from this book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This book is really great for ALL graduate students.
Review: The book really speaks to the heart and soul of those who desire to be in, or to finish graduate school. It gave me clarity, particularly as a student who has been out of graduate school for a while and it allowed me to see what "I was missing" in a sense. The academic world is not always user friendly, but the Dr. Peters explains it in language that is quite simple yet cuts to the heart of the matter. I would recommend this book to ALL graduate students who desire to finish on time and get into the school of their choice! A thumbs up!
