Rating: Summary: Really cool, icky at times. Review: Who knew viruses were so amazing? Especially when there's an outbreak in sight of the Washington Monument. That's creepy. It just goes to show that there could be a deadly outbreak for humans at any time.
Rating: Summary: the most appealing book of the most frightening subject Review: I have bought the book in 1996 and 1998 because I lost it and I want it to be in my permanent library, thanks to this book my daughter have decided to study viruses. This book is so well written that I recommend it to everybody I know.
Rating: Summary: Good, True horror. Review: This is one of the best book I've have read.I liked it and I am only in 7th grade. I liked that it was a true story and that it happened in the U.S.A. Another good book about the Reston outbreak is Virus Hunter by C.J. Peters. He played a main role in the Reston outbreak.
Rating: Summary: A captivating, and horrifying true story. Review: Richard Preston has a desciptive and intence way of stating how one small virus can cause such pain and torture for many in our socity today. This is a true story of how a deadly virus emerged from the deapths of the African Rain Forest suddenly showing up in our nations capital; Washington D.C. The silence that occured as secret agents and civilians faced death. While eluding the pubic and press as they worked in "The Hot Zone." They did this so that they could stop the virus before it got any farther in the United States society. These were monkeys harmless monkeys that were so called "Hot." The scientist took samples that were so dried up that they were like gooey salami in your hand, they then placed them under a microscope and evaluated them. One fact; is that if the scientists had pricked there finger with the small needle that they were using on the animals, there was a large change that they would be the ones on the observation table next. No one knows how or when this virus emerged, Ebola Reston just show up to create havic with in the United States Goverment or so I think. This virus is the sister to many other viruses included in the chain of death is sister and brother Ebola Zaire, and Aids. If you never read a book in your life I strongly recomend this book. This book is one the most captivating and horrifying true storys that has ever been written. A Virus that can liquify a nation. Death as we know would be different! This book is horrifiingly true, scary to think I would die if I touched this period. Ebola Reston is small and you never know how you got it till it's to late.
Rating: Summary: This book is scary. It is the most frightning book. Review: This book is very scary. It is scarier than any Stephen King book that I have read. My teacher is reading us this book. He reads it as if it were happening to him. Everyone agrees that this book is the best book. Everyone should read this book. The first chapter will keep you hooked. It only gets better after that. Monet, the main character, is going under the worst thing any of us could, Ebola. Your body turns into a corpse before your mind has died. In conclusion, this book is horrifying and keeps you right there.
Rating: Summary: Awsome Review: I really enjoyed this bool. I didn't think i was going to like it but after the first chapter i was compelled to keep reading. I recommend this to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Perfect description of a nightmare Review: After I read "Carriers" by Patrick Lynch, wich I just bought to kill some time, I bought this book just to get some more to know of some events and so mentioned in that book and about diseases like Ebola and Marburg. Specially because of the use of biological weapons used today. I think I never read a non-fiction book or ever fiction that is so clear in this quite complex matter. Simply on of the best books I ever read. Bravo Zulu.
Rating: Summary: This book is DA BOMB!!! Review: This book was one of the most, if not the most, amazing books I have ever read. Right from the start, and all the way to the end were pages filled with horror and suspense. I would like to praise Mr. Preston on a job well done! I recommend this book to those who enjoy reading suspense and horror. This is one of those you-don't-put-it-down-until-your-done books!
Rating: Summary: Superbly written Real-Life Horror In Our Own Backyard Review: Not matter if it is fiction or fact that you seek, Richard Preston's 'The Hot Zone' hammers home one very real fact, "Some of the smallest things in this known Universe can hurt you a whole lot!" Chapter One is the most frightening thing I ever read. What Marburg and Ebola filoviruses can do will amaze and scare even the most enlightened people who have not yet read this real life masterpiece. I've read it three times and will read it again! Kitum Cave must be the most fascinating place to avoid on this planet! Five stars all the way!
