Summary: A very secretive and descriptive event in our life time!
Review: I enjoyed reading this book, especially the first half! Preston really makes you "be" there when he starts describing the signs and symptoms of the virus. Ebola Zaire is my favorite. What I found extremely informative was the amount of time a patient has to live once the virus has entered his body. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to anyone who likes a lot of description in their reading!!!!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Really, really GOOD.
Review: I really enjoyed reading this book because I like to read about viruses. But you don't have to love viruses to like this book! Preston's view of the virus is explained in every acute detail; he must have spent A LOT of time researching! And he's no biologist or anything...

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The Best Book I Ever Read
Review: I just started to read the Hot Zone today. I can't believe how incredibly detailed and "graphic" it was. I just can't put it down! After starting to read the book, I realized how unsafe and contaminated our world is. It's a great wake up call to all of us that there are things that lurk around, not knowing when they will "pounce" on us. Inspirational!

Summary: Pandering to an audience.
Review: The author takes a non-event,and makes it into a best seller. Pretty impressive, huh? This is probably a good book if you know little about viruses, and can be impressed with learning some medicine. Unfortunately, I am a molecular biologist, and was already aware of the things that make this book interesting. That only left me with his plodding plot, and repetitive descriptions. If you want an exciting virus story, search out the book "Fever! The Hunt for a New Killer Virus" by John Fuller. It is much better written, more coherent, and more interesting. This is the story of the discovery of Lassa Fever in 1969, without the benefit of all the technology used in the Hot Zone, and it will have you on the edge of your seat if you are lucky enough to locate a copy. If you want to learn about medicine, read the Coming Plague. Although a little ponderous, it discusses many interesting diseases.

Summary: This book makes you realize how fragile life really is.
Review: An excellently written book that makes you turn the book over to make sure you're really reading a fiction book.... For it to be true would be too horrifying.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: As gripping as a non-fiction piece can get
Review: The Hot Zone is one of the best non-fiction books I have read. Preston's thourough research on the subject is evident in his graphic descriptions and history of events that transpired. The first half of the book is definitely the stronger half, which includes the chilling initial outbreaks in Africa.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Very exciting and detailed
Review: This book is very informative and makes the Ebola virus seem VERY interesting

Summary: Sometimes life is scarier than fiction.....
Review: This book is one of the most capitivating works I have ever read. The immense amount of detail really gives an in-depth look at the Ebola virus, and was really quite frightening. All in all, this book holds one's interest all the way through, not only with the expressive writing, but with the mere fact that everything written is true.

Summary: The most horrifying book I have ever read.
Review: I read this book when I was in 7th grade and it is very different from what I usually read. I'm glad that my English teacher recommended this book, there were so many things that I didn't know about viruses and to think that this a true story! It's like I'm actually with the characters and and can actually feel the situation that they're in. In the beginning, the introduction of characters was kind of just here and there, so I got a bit confused. But near the 2nd half, it all came together and I understood. I enjoyed this book very much and I know I will never forget the horrific effects of Marbug and Ebola.

Summary: This chilling story of the ebola virus arouses emotions that
Review: Even Robin Cook MD couldn't have written a better description of the deafly Ebola virus. The book satiates the needs of even the most chilling reader.
