Rating: Summary: Damn good book... Review: I am only 14 years old, and though I dont read many books, this one was the best one ever. It was my father who suggested that I could read it, and i started reading after I went to bed, and I could'nt stop!! It is exiting from the start and all the way to the end.Richard Preston writes in a good language and he describes the outbreaks and the death of the victims so detailed, that I almost trowed up five or six times. The book is a description of the Ebola virus, from the first outbreak to one of the latest outbreaks. I can really recommend this book to every virus (and not-virus) fans. This is really a exellent book!!! If you havent read it, READ IT!! If you could give this book 200 stars, then I would give it 300 stars. Rating: Summary: Stilted And Artificial Review: Richard Preston is a writer. This is how he writes. He writes choppy sentences. His sentences are short. He writes ten short sentences to make one point. He repeats things. He writes a story about a virus. The virus is what the story is about. A virus is a germ that can people or animals sick. Sometimes it makes animals sick. Sometimes it makes humans sick. Richard Preston wants to tell you about the Ebola virus. And if the writing in this review looks good to you, maybe you will be able to finish the book rather than heave it across the room in frustration.
Rating: Summary: The Hot Zone Review: I think that this is one of the best books I have ever read in my life. It keeps you reading and you never know what will happen next or where they will go. I like this book because it was about a deadly deasise (ebola), I'm very interested in this kind of thing because its not something you run into every day. I think that Richard Preston did a great job on detail in this book wich is essential to make the reader interested for a long amount of time. I have read this book numerous times just to read it. I give it a 5. but anyway, the book is about a desise that just wont go away, it tracks down new hosts to live in and potentially kill. It originated in england, by the name of marburg, than a different virus popped up in sudan, it went the name of ebola sudan, than to zire, by the name of ebola zire. The team of reasercers were on a race against time to get this under controle before it resulted in a pandemic. which would kill billions.
Rating: Summary: Terrific book Review: I thought that The Hot Zone was a terrific non-fiction book. It was so graphic and descriptive that I felt I could actually see it happening. Richard Preston did a wonderful job in bringing such a deadly virus into my reality. It makes you wonder about what is really out there. Never again shall I take for granted the meaning of life.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I loved this book. I hope to be a doctor at some point in my future, and work in the field with viruses and such. This book, and The Cobra Event (also by Preston) give a gripping fictional edge to reality that you hardly know is there. I recommend it for anyone who likes a good thrill!
Rating: Summary: Frightening Review: I read a lot of books but NEVER this type of book -- I usually go for books that are fun or mysterious but not terrifying. I picked up "The Hot Zone" because I'd heard so much about the book, and wanted to see what everyone was talking about. Between this book and the movie "Outbreak", out about the same time, I realized what a fragile grip we have on our presence on this planet. I kept reading and with every horrifying page I kept having to remind myself, "This is a true story!" Richard Preston did a fantastic job putting together these events in a gripping, page-turning (dare I say "entertaining"?) way.
Rating: Summary: Everyone should read it Review: I think that the world will end this way! We will be wiped out by a virus such as "Ebola Zaire" which is known as a "slate killer" wiping the human life off the slate of the earth. A very unique book that imparts some utterly fascinating information about the nature of the virus and how it "burns" through it's host.
Rating: Summary: True Gripper Review: This book is extremely well written. Reading this book will change the way you look at things sometimes. Although its not a horror, it was a thrilling, scary read. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: This Can Really Happen! Review: This book scared me to death because it is true. I couldn't put it down, though. It's very graphic and the images pop in your head. The auther did a great job of describing everything. I do recomend this book, but if you are easily repulsed, you might want to pass on this.
Rating: Summary: The Hot Zone Review: this is an absolutely fabulous book, but you might want to skip the first third of the book if you have a weak stomach, it's very graphic as to what the ebola virus does to you. I loved this book it has inspired me to go into medical research as my occupation. of course i have a strong stomach....
