Rating: Summary: An excellent, funny and readable guide to college. Review: I bought my first copy of this book based upon a review in the New York Times before starting college, and used it as my bible. It is funny, well laid-out, and practical without being preachy. I continue to buy copies for friends and family as gifts: all of the other books I have seen sound like they were written by guidance counselors or something. This is like student to student.
Rating: Summary: New name, same great book Review: I had searched for some time to find College 101 (the university primer which guided me through my liberal arts career in the mid-1980s), but no one seemed to carry it anymore, or so I thought. I was excited to see that Worthington and Farrar are back (they never went away) with the Ultimate College Survival Guide--a renamed, high-speed edition of the unique genre Professor Farrar mastered (invented?) almost two decades ago. Worthington has turned out another slick edition. I believe this is the same gal who teamed with Dr. Pat Walsh (Johns Hopkins Hospital), making his technical expertese discernible to the masses in their best-selling book on the prostate. As she did there, Worthington has managed to condense the four year college experience into a cogent and humourous read--an improbable twofer. What was that guy from New York reading? Maybe he ought to be "report" carded.
Rating: Summary: Almost entirely useless Review: I read this book immediately before starting my freshman year of college. Doing so did me hardly any good. The writing left a lot to be desired and the advice it gave was of minimal applicability. I certainly would not reccommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: A great guide for starting your college years Review: I was looking for a book for my nephew to use when he went away to college. This book caught my eye because it had all of the useful topics I could think of in the index. Then I saw on the front cover that the New York Times had called the book "Outstanding." That caught my eye. I looked at the other books on the same topic and chose this one for its usefulness and penetrating analyses of any possible problems a college student could have from personal safety to surviving his classes. I think this book is a great find, especially for college freshmen. My nephew says he has gotten lots of good advice from the book.
Rating: Summary: A Great Guide Review: Plenty of useful tips for any college student. If you like this book, you'll love "Major in Success", by Patrick Combs. It will change your college experience.

Rating: Summary: Darn good reading Review: Who gets excited about a book for graduation? I did! This book has all kinds of tips--from roomates, fighting the freshman "10", to the $5 date. I love the stories in the margins. I think I know some of those people. Thanks to this book, I will Survive!

Rating: Summary: Darn good reading Review: Yes indeed, this book is great for that incoming freshman who has no clue of what to do. It has good insight on college life and deals with subjects like sex and alcohol. The book is a great gift for that student who is going away to college. I couldn't put it down.I hope this helps Peace:o>
