Rating: Summary: I only used the practice tests in this book Review: I took the AP Statistics test almost two years ago but I still remember how this book helped me prep for it because I found it so helpful. Before, all the equations were jumbled up in my head but after going through practice test after practice test from this book, I felt more and more confident. When I took the test, I breezed through it and ended up with a 5. The reason I didn't give 5 stars to this book is that the practice tests weren't exactly like the actual test. But that's not a big deal because the practice tests were good preparation anyway, and I don't think any other book has more accurate tests. After all, the AP Statistics test has only been around a few years. My teacher is the one who gave us the practice tests from this book and he is a grader of the AP test so he's someone you can trust.
Rating: Summary: Useful, but updated edition needed Review: I used this book to review for the 2001 AP statistics exam in class. It was very useful because my class was taught using a standard college statistics book, and lacked the depth needed to do well on the exam. When used over nearly and entire semester, I practically relearned statistics using this book. The review chapters are extremely useful and very in depth. They cover everything you need to know for the exam at the level you need to know it.However, the end of chapter and review test problems are a different story. They were designed after the old form of the test which stressed calculator usage. However, when taking the test, I found that most of the review problems were nothing like the ones on the actual test. Luckily, I still managed to get a 5, because of the review chapters. This is definitely a book that you need to start at least 2 months before the actual test to let it all sink in.
Rating: Summary: It got me a five;and I didn't even take the class. Review: I used this book to study for the exam in 2000 and received a 4. The tests were a bit easier than the actual exam but the review was comprehensive. The questions are good practice for the actual AP because you'll quickly learn how to attack certain problems and the key concepts to solve 95% of them. This book was WAY better than my textbook even though a few minor topics were left out.
Rating: Summary: Was this ready to be released? Review: I'll quickly admit to this: the concepts in this book are explained much more clearly than anything my teacher has said or given to me. But, of course, she's a horrible teacher. However, I've never seen so many typos in a book! I'm convinced that whoever wrote this up was either not paying attention or had no idea what they were typing. For instance: on pg. 466 they state the null hypothesis as Ho:p1-p2=0, and then Ha:p1-p2=0. For those of you who haven't taken statistics, this is nonsense. Ha is supposed to be the opposite of Ho. On page 180, there is a formula for the variance of a binomial distribution: Sigma squared X = (1-p). I thought it looked odd but I tried it out to find my answer completely off the mark. I was freaking out until I saw the right equation in a paragraph at the top of the page (... =np(1-p)) While often if you try, you can find your way around these, being fed misinformation while studying for an AP exam is terrifying. Keep away until another edition.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book from a NY high school student Review: My AP statistics teacher wasn't the greatest teacher. She did not believe in assigning homework. As far as AP exams go, AP statistics is one of the easiest ones. This book helps you prepare wonderfully. The only problem with this book is it doesn't teach you how to fully utilize the statistics features of the ti-83 or ti-89 calculator (both allowable on the AP stats exam). In my class last year, only 2 people got 5s, 2 got 3s, and the rest failed. These were not stupid people. Two of the seniors are now at Cornell. But anyway, for AP statistics, this is THE BOOK TO GET. With this book, you can easily achieve a 5. The problems in this book are HARDER than the ones on the exam. This book REALLY PREPAREs you to get a 5. I did, and you can too.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book from a NY high school student Review: My whole class used this book. The chapter reviews were easy to follow and very thorough. The practice exams were more difficult than the real exam and so we were really prepared.
Rating: Summary: Never taken a statistics class and got a 5 Review: Statistics is probably one of the easiest AP exams you can take if you are a math-minded person. I bought this book and went through it once, and without using anything else I was able to achieve a 5 on the Stat exam. Saved me a lot of trouble when I got to college by already having the credit, I would recommend anyone with skills in math take the Stat exam.

Rating: Summary: Great Resource for Studying Review: This book was a fairly good review to me for taking the AP Stat. Exam this year--the practice tests are fairly well designed, and the review sections were a help in understanding some unclear points. A must have for AP Stat. students.
Rating: Summary: It got me a five;and I didn't even take the class. Review: Well I didn't take AP statistics this year. I took normal statistics last year and took the exam this year. Although this book sort of slacked off in the end with the BETA-test topic, the rest of the topics were well-reviewed. Take it from me: you don't even need a text book to get a 5 on the AP test if you get this study guide.
