Summary: This book is a definite Bi-o!
Review: I had biology in highschool and it did me nothing. I came out of that class as clueless as ever and I expected to be a biology major! I thus picked up the Biology AP Cliff book and read and memorized everything from cover to cover. It did me well, as I earned a 5!... That is how a preparation book should work. If you read the entire book and memorize it, you will know every single answer on the test. In addition to helping me on the AP exam, I noticed it helped me for my Science Bowl Team and also I can now do well on the Biology section on the MCAT!...

Summary: biology
Review: I hated this book. The book doesn't have good explanations. It is very brief. I found it difficult. This book didn't help me at all. Overall don't waste your money.

Summary: wonderful reference for your AP biology class
Review: i just got my score for the bio test and earned a "5". i was soo happy and i think this book was a wonderful help in my studying. i listened well in class and came home and reviewed with this book. that worked out to be a strategy for my learning. this book closly followed our real textbook (cambell's biology) and including a great lecture on every subject

-read this book and garunteeed a "3"

-really read and follow along for a "4"

-review throurouly before the test and take as many practice exams as possible for a "5"

-better than princton and barrons for the sheer amount of info on every thing.

-only one practice test so get some from your teacher.

Summary: Best AP Bio Book out There
Review: I took AP Bio 2003-2003 and I purchased the Cliffs AP Biology book. This was the best move i made and scored a 5 because of it. I also had the Barrons AP Bio book and there is no question in my mind that the cliffs AP bio is a better choice. The book explains matters clearly and gives you what you need to succeed on the AP test. Read the sections as a supplement to your text book and you will do very well on the AP exam. The example multiple choice that are given are a little easy compared to the test, but the information is great. (The only thing that I used the barrons for was to do some multiple choice questions). Also the free response questions are excellent.

Summary: AP Prep books are Prep books, not Text books
Review: I took the Biology AP this year (freshman year). I'm sure it helped that I had a decent teacher and a very good text book (Biology Concept and Applications, Starr/5th Edition. Brooks/Cole Thompson Learning publisher, I have an extra copy if you'd like to buy it--diablodeloszorros@yahoo.com). My teacher went ahead and ordered the class the Princeton Review AP Bio book, but I decided to do a little research first before getting mine. While I was studying, all my friends were teasing me, haha you have a different prep book. Turned out most of them didn't get a 5, and I did. This book is relatively well written and simple enough to understand. It covers just enough detail so if you read over something, you will remember all that you need. It has study questions at the end of each section. There were two things that bothered me about this book: at the end of each section there isn't a list of terms you should remember, and there are only two practice tests (I think--I burned the book after the exam). However, I had access to many AP bio books (Kaplan, Princeton, the 5 steps to a 5 one, a few others), and looking through them, they didn't seem all that great. The practice tests help, so copy a few of those out or get your teacher to. Use this book to supplement your class if you want a 5. No AP Prep book is a text book, it is important to not only use this, but also your class notes etc... However, this is one of the better AP books available. Good luck.

Summary: Cliffs AP Biology is the authority on this AP
Review: I took the exam on May 16, 2001 using this review book and Campbell's fifth edition of Biology and got a score of a five on the AP. This book does not teach you the details you need to do very well on the AP, however what it does do is that it shows what concepts are needed to do well on the AP. It helped tremendously on the essays in part 2 of the exam. My advice, is to buy both Campbell's fifth edition and this review book. By first reading this review book you get an idea of what's important on the exam and then using the textbook you can gain a greater understanding of the biological concepts behind it and the detailed information often only available in textbooks.

Summary: Coverage of all the material with no extra detail
Review: I used this review book to study for the AP and i got a 4. The rest of the 13 kids in my AP bio class got 4's and 5's- and we all used this book. It offers a great coverage of the material but does not give extra detail and when it does give detail that is extra it is written that it is extra. I found it quite helpful and it got me great results

Summary: Good Review Book
Review: I've read some of the reviews that claim this book to be horrible. ok, the only reason why people even think that this book is "horrible" is because they expected this to be an in-depth detail textbook for the ap exam. first of all, this book was designed to prep you and to review concepts that you've already supposed to have been learning throughout the year. This book is not meant to give very specific details about how the Krebs cycle works or how photosynthesis specifically works. if that's what you want, go buy a Biology textbook. don't expect a biology ap prep book to give you all the details. A good way to prep for the Biology AP exam is to learn (that's right, LEARN, not memorize!!) the material and review it every month. Before the exam, read this book over at very good pace over a week. (don't be like me, i crammed everything in in 3 days and ended up not studying for my other ap exams..very bad consequence). if you still feel too shaky the morning of the exam, just quickly skim over the pages. i did that and got a 5 on the exam. and the essay parts, don't worry- they're a cinch if you write essays consistently for each chapter test. (my teacher made us do that). having a really good amazing teacher that really pounds this stuff into your head is a big plus for this test! Mrs. Carr rocks!

Summary: Well worth the money spent
Review: If you are looking for some help in preparing for the AP Biology examination I highly recommend this book. I actually ended up using this book much more than my textbook because it is much more concise than the average textbook. I wouldn't solely use this as your source for preparing for the exam as this book lacks the details that a textbook provides which are wise to know if you want to get a 5 but far as explaining main ideas associated with topics covered on the exam this book goes a long way to helping you get that 5. I recommend purchasing this book in late March or early April and working through a chapter or two every day until the day of the AP. You will probably end up redoing the chapters a few times but you will be so fluent in the material that it will just flow out of you the day of the AP exam. I did this exercise with this book along with reviewing my notes for more details and I ended up getting a 5 finishing the multiple choice in 25 minutes and the essays in about half the time alotted.

Summary: IT SUCKS
Review: If you took the class like me but had two different teachers and one teacher did not teach you anything then welcome to my world. TO tell you the truth this books sucks. It has almost no imformation and unless you are some genious you would wanna look at this book as a quick review. This book teaches you like you are a third grader. I am taking ap exam in two days and was reading the molecular biology section and it did not cover how enzymes worked; and stuff like that. I also brought an barron's book and was looking at that. It covered everything like you need. Cliffs book sucks and don't buy it; buy something else. It skips a whole lot of stuff. IF you wanna get a 4 or better get another book. THIS BOOK IS HORRIBLE.
