Review: The only problem with this book, and the reason that I am giving it 4 stars is that this is a fast moving subject so the book will now be a bit dated in a few years. In any case it is an excellent overview of the field.

The book features many illustrations and schematics.

It is a good introduction for someone with a chemistry background or the intelligent lay person wishing to make the first formal step in learning something about the comercialization process of gentic developments. I would call this more of a specialist book and not for the general lay learner, although they might want to borrow the book at a good science library.

I just finished reading the Matt Ridley book Genome, an intriduction, and found this present book to be an excellent but expensive next step after the introduction. If you just want pictures there are a number of other books. See my Listmania list on genetics.
