Review: I really enjoy reading this book. It is very high quality book. It tries to cover all the aspects for the optical components for the fiber communication. The different chapters are covered by real experts in their own field. Many chapter author are actual pioneers for the field they covered. I like this point very much.

reading this book, I feel go through the history of optical component. There are so many ideas developed in the past and there are so many progresses made in the past ten years. It is such a splendid and brilliant optics. Given the optic industry is in very bad shape now, I would say this book really show the spirit of optics.

This book also cover many newer area, such as gain clamped amplifier, not only for EDFA, such as very high speed receiver, not only common detectors.
