Summary: Right
Review: a stunningly entertaining book filled with articles designed to awaken you from your intellectual slumber induced by the evil "conservative media" and turn you into more of an educated consumer of news. There is good diversity among the articles but all seem concerned with putting things right by exposing the litany of hypocrisies polluting our brains.

If you enjoy getting to the heart of controversial matters, then this enlightening - not to mention large and nicely designed -
resource will surely satisy.

Makes for a nice companion book to Kingdom of Fear and TSOG, by Thompson and Wilson respectively.

OPEN YOUR MIND!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Eye-opening!
Review: Be forewarned. This book may dramatically alter your perceptions of the world around you. In terms of consistently presenting solid, shocking information that counters a wide variety of widely accepted beliefs, Everything You Know is Wrong, Disinformation Press's second collection of exposés, far surpasses its first, You Are Being Lied To. Heck, it surpasses every other book of its kind for that matter. Like its predecessor, Everything You Know Is Wrong amasses a diverse selection of experts, insiders, academics and journalists, all of whom have some sort of truth to reveal. Many of their revelations will drop jaws. Few readers will think the same of the tragedies after reading attorney, David T. Hardy's revelations about Waco; volume editor Russ Kick's about Columbine and private investigator, Brad Shellady's on Henry Lee Lucas' supposed killing spree. Equally surprising are the volume's exposés concerning everyday happenings such as sociologist, Mike A. Males' data revelating that today's teens are actually less violent than the baby boomers in their youth and teacher turned educational renegade, John Taylor Gatto's article exposing the roots of forced schooling in the business elite's design for a more compliant population.

Of course, not every article in Everything You Know Is Wrong is so imperative. The volume makes the same mistake as You Are Being Lied To (although to a lesser extent) in including articles that present unpopular opinions, rather than uncovered secrets. Sex columnist, Tristan Taormino's criticism of monogamy and dissenting psychiatrist, Thomas Szaz's essay comparing metal illness to phlogiston are misplaced. Still, Everything You Know Is Wrong achieves its desired effect. Once a reader has finished this thought-provoking collection, he or she is sure to question just about all of his or her schemas and never again trust consensus reality.

Summary: The News You Don't See on TV
Review: Did you know that the Amendment that allows the government to tax your income never passed properly?
Did you know that there are far more suspects involved in Columbine than just the two deceased shooters, and that police have their names?
Did you know that the Vatican has its own secret bank?
Did you know that teen violence is nowhere near as bad as they make it out to be on t.v.?
Did you know that there are strange mysteries still surrounding the Oklahoma City bombing?
Sound like paranoid ramblings? Well, they're not. They're actual news stories that you won't see on the nightly news, because they don't want you to know. All verified, all here for you to see. Read this book. Understand that just because you here it on the 6 o'clock news doesn't make it the truth.

Summary: The Disinformation Guide to Why to Buy This Book NOW!
Review: Disinformation is most effective in a very narrow context, quipped the CIA agent Frank Snepp in 1985, but this massive disquisition from the sharp folks at Disinfo.com (a must visit site for all the critically-minded) is a thrilling compilation with a very, very broad net of exposés!

The book is neatly organized into sections based on nature of "disinformation" and lies. Some highlights --

LUCRE: the shady world of global finance...includes a revelation based on exclusive leaked documents from the World Bank and the WTO; a stinging criticism of the pharmaceutical industry's exploits; the clandestine financial dealings of the Vatican Bank; a treatise on how antitrust law actually hurts consumers and is used almost exclusively by businesses who want to kneecap their competitors; a worldwide trail of laundered money and global banking secrecy...

THE HIGH AND MIGHTY: targeted at the big tykes with dubious credentials...including former Senator Bob Kerrey's active role in the CIA's ultrasecret Phoenix program which involved torturing and killing civilians in Vietnam; the hidden costs of the Olympics; a thrilling account of the secrets behind the "European Union" -- this is truly eye opening; and finally some of the big groups that magnify and sometimes entirely brew the threat of political extremists in America.

TRUE, TRUE CRIME: a devastating look at the case of Henry Lee Lucas, wrongly alleged to be one of the worst serial killers of all time; a gripping account of the case of "The Monster of Florence," which inspired Thomas Harris to create his intellectual psychopath, Hannibal Lecter (turns out that the ritualistic killings lead straight to Italy's high society!); and some eye opening stuff in how the cops connive with the gangs in the war for drugs.

THE BODY AND MIND: scrutinizes medical misgivings of our world...some fact-based insight into the mad cow disease which may have already invaded the entire world not just UK; how a lot of the meat and animal food in our world may affect global health, humanitarian, and environmental problems; how out mental illness may just be a ruse; and how psychiatric drugging of children for behavioral control is damaging to the "subjects".

SOCIAL DISTORTION: my favorite section of the book -- shatters our generation's pet peeve about unprecedented problems with 'today's young people' as the facts tell a different story--kids nowadays are less violent and use less drugs and alcohol than their parents' generation. Did you know that men comprise a significant portion of domestic abuse victims as well? The section contains some fascinating and somewhat topical reads about the adverse effects of media-saturated consumer culture on our psyches; the current trend toward forced treatment for drug users; about how our relationship options extend far, far beyond the limited choices we're normally given (written by a lesbian); and some pieces about religion.

NOT ON THE NIGHTLY NEWS: a startling number of accidents, near-misses, and other problems in nuclear power plants; the destruction of a plane over Scotland that was officially pinned on a Libyan but this official version was truly off-base; the clamour of prominent international leaders against the "drug war" for nothing other than, well, private gain of course; the sordid horrors of being an untouchable (aka "Dalt") in India; how the west punishes the developing countries' leaders for noncompliance with their wishes; and a VERY, VERY fascinating piece on the frighteningly underrated military and economic power of China.

911 AND BEYOND: a no-one-told-you-so account of the event, the postmortem goings-on (including the reconnaissance mission about Bin laden) and how the whole christianity/islam issue colors USA's "axis of evil" policy.

HIDDEN HISTORY: some shocking events from our recent yet largely forgotten (or unbroadcasted) past ...including "The Ludlow Massacre" -- a 1914 slaughter of men, women, and children; the shameful treatment of the people of the Bikini Atoll, who were deprived of their homeland and their health so the US could detonate nuclear bombs on their islands; and how, using original quotes from the men who created and implemented the United States' public school system, the school system was purposefully designed the system to keep us dumb and docile.

You have to be incurably slow to be still sitting there wondering whether this book is worth it...it should be included in architecture textbooks to be an integral part of a living room shelf in ANY house! JUST GET IT!

Summary: Not bad, but could do with a new title.
Review: Each essay is well written and most of the time an interesting argument is presented. You cant help but raise an eyebrow at some of the references though (or lack of them).

Unfortunately the book assumes that you are American, or at least in touch and in tune with a lot of what goes on over there. There are many political and social references made that I have never heard of.

So I think the book should be renamed

'Americans: Everything you know is wrong'

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Confirmation of one's worst suspicions is always heartening
Review: Everything You Know Is Wrong is a blockbuster of a book which points up the glossing over, disinforming and secretizing of so much that is vital to the good life in America we all yearn for! As a woman of 83, I still remember times when this kind of power-over process was cruder and even more devastating to the body politic and to our dedication to the principles of genuine democracy.

Because the paradox is that BOTH the all-inclusiveness of disinformation AND our ability to see beyond it to its origin in special interests - as well as the general idiocy of the people who believe in our gullibility - have grown exponentially! I'm hoping to live long enough to see how the war on real democracy - and our own ability to win it! - comes out!

In the meanwhile, the article by my own favorite caped crusader, John Taylor Gatto, has the most amazingly compelling explanation of why and how we got to be this way - in terms of our public school system - that you'll ever run across! Get the book. And invite your kids' teachers to read it.

Summary: not bad, but not complete...
Review: For the real story of 9-11, check out the book "War on Freedom" or David Icke's "Alice in Wonderland and the WTC disaster." In both books are accounts of how the federal government orchestrated the attacks themselves to usher in motives for war (which makes $$$ for the powers that be) and a police state - starting with the 'patriot act.' Summary: Getting the other side of the story
Review: Have you ever wondered if the media is telling you the complete story? Have you ever wondered if there is another side to the stories that is just plain not being told? Is it possible that everything you are being taught is not necessarily true but is instead just the position that the government, media or other group wants you to believe? If you have then you owe it to yourself to read this book.

Just a couple of examples from the book include the current situation with Mad Cow disease in America, the fact that violence involving young people is at it's lowest level in over 30 years (despite the impression you get from the news), how French authorities kidnapped a girl in California and took her to France. Other areas include nuclear safety, globalization, serial killers, the Vatican Bank, Olympic Games, the Columbine murders and many others.

While at times the book seems like a series of articles from a "conspiracy theory" group, it has the advantage of each article being contributed by an authority in that field. The authorities include everything from investigative journalists to researchers to commentators and academic authorities. Each article includes well-documented evidence to backup all claims.

If nothing else, you owe it to yourself to learn the alternative possibilities and explanations that are out there, most of which are at least as plausible and sometimes more so than the "official" or "accepted" version. A fascinating read that opens the mind, answers many questions and at times creates more questions than it answers. Fun and irreverent, sometimes politically left, sometimes politically right, it is a recommended read.
