Summary: The Roaring 2000's
Review: Very thought provoking look into the next century with an emphisis on the next ten years. Highly recommended for the investor of the future.

Summary: A Gripping and Intelligent Assessment of the Market
Review: As a financial services professional, I highly recommend Harry Dent's works. The Roaring 2000s: Building the Wealth and Life Style You Desire confirms Mr. Dent's standing as a clear-headed and highly skilled analyst of the economic scene. Every investor, every securities professional and every insurance broker should take the time to read this book, or at least, to listen to the excellent audio version of it.

Summary: Believe it or Not
Review: I received this book as a gift from a dear friend of mine about twelve months ago. When he gave it to me he looked in my eyes and said ... "STUDY THIS BOOK."

And I did what almost every normal person with little time on his hands does .... I put the book in my book case and did not read it.

Six months went by, and Laura, my youngest daughter (26) came to visit for a couple of days and asked to borrow the book.

Two days went by and Laura called me and asked if I thought Mr. Dent was on the money in his predictions. She was surprised to hear that I have not read the book yet, and made me swear that I will buy another copy and read it, and I did. This took place in October 1999.

After reading this book, I was a believer that technology will lead us to better places and I started investing heavily in the stock market. At the same time, I read another excellent book on short-term trading, "Stock Trading Wizard" by Tony Oz, and he talked about cost averaging for long-term growth. He wrote about the QQQ which tracks tech stocks (nasdaq 100 index) and I started buying into this stock. I also bought other tech issues and on the morning of January 2, 2000, I sold half my portfolio for more money than I initially invested. I took my initial investment off the table, plus some profits, and I have the rest invested in QQQ for long-term growth. I am staying with technology.

I want to thank Mr. Dent as it was for him that I saw the opportunity. I still think that his predictions will come true, and I have my money where his mouth is.

So if you believe him or not, I think you should read it. So far, I have more than 250,000 reasons to believe him.

Summary: MORE THAN JUST AN INVESTMENT BOOK
Review: This book is more than just an investment book. It is a book about where to live, where to work, as well as where to invest in the 2000's. In addition to predictions to the future, the author also takes us back to the past to compare current inventions to those of the past. For example, the importance of the Internet is compared to the invention of the printing press. And, he compares the growth curve of personal computers and the Internet to the growth curve of the automobile industry in the early 1900's.

Because I am a librarian, I came across this book by accident when filling a request for one of my patrons. I took a quick look at it and then decided I needed to get my own copy.

Whether or not you believe all of the predictions in this book, it is still a fascinating read and gives one plenty of food for thought. I don't read very many non-fiction books, but this one certainly grabbed my attention.

Summary: Thoughts of visionaries are often dismissed ...
Review: Harry Dent's book is certainly thought provoking and one from a visionary. It does not matter if you agree or disagree a visionary, but reading what is said is important. I add this book to my list of important books to read because it summarizes and validates what I believe will happen. More importantly, it looks at trends and cycles which I believe are important as he justifies what he believes will happen in the next few years. Bill Gates once said, "I think there's a real tendency to overestimate how much things will change in the next two years; but also, and dangerously, a tendency to underestimate how much things will change in 10 years." Where Harry Dent falls in the scheme of things is for you to decide.

Summary: Well written by one who has been on many sides of business
Review: After reading this book I found it exceptionally visionary in most areas. What Mr.Dent may or may not realize is that the "New Network Company" talked about in chapters 5,6,7,and 8, is not new to many people. The handful of credible direct marketing companies have been structured like this for 40 years! They were way ahead of their time as Dent now confirms, as well as many other network marketing companies that are organized properly. People in these industries, who have been scorned for years, are finally going to be recognized as the "true" visionaries they have always been when this type of corporate structure becomes the norm!

Summary: I really enjoyed this book
Review: I am a short-term trader. I face the challenge of making calls on the direction of the market, industries and individual stocks on a daily basis. I think it takes a lot of courage to try and forecast global economy and the stock market ten years into the future.

The author illustrates very interesting points and paints a picture that is definitely worth looking at.

I recommend reading this book. Even if you disagree with some of the points or even all of the points in this book, I still think it will be worth your time and money.

Summary: Still reading it
Review: For the few of you who gave the book a low rating, stating the lack of fact...well, were you preoccupied at the time of reading? It seems pretty factual to me and futhermore your comments are MORE vague than anything I have read in Dent's book. Why don't YOU elaborate on what seems to be missing? His book make alot of clear sense to me...

Summary: Very interesting and well worth reading, but too optimistic
Review: I came into this book thinking this current economic boom can't last long and it's coming to an end soon. While Dent did not totally change my mind, he made me think about the effect baby boomers will have on the economy. He did, however, go into a little too much detail with the technological advances where I would have liked to see more theory and evidence of his views and therefore lost a star. Overall, this book is entertaining and insightful but painted a little too rosy to be grounded in reality.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Essential reading for a balanced literary diet
Review: "The Roaring 2,000's" provides up front, no nonsense reasons for the bull markets longevity - something that has left many other investment commentators with a whole six pack of egg on their faces. I find his approach refreshing and provoking. Many things in our lives are more complicated than they need to be (usually because people have a vested interest in being experts). Harry Dent provides a simple, common sense answer to many of the vagaries of our economy. Stick with KISS I say (Keep it simple, stupid!).
