Summary: Disappointed
Review: I have just finished this book and found it to be very boring and lengthy. I agree with the other reviewer, only three pages worth reading.
No idea how anyone that has read this book would give it five stars, if not friends of the author.

Summary: Anyone with ambition for success should read this book!
Review: I only wish Kelly would write a book for employeers and corporations on how to take care of their professionals and work force. His lessions are those that are hard won from years of work place environment for most of us. When taking care of the boss, your employees, and customers doesn't give you what you need, want, and expcet from your employeer, you need a new approach. Kelly provides this in clear and concise terms for even the average reader. I attended a lecture in new business trends to make yourself a success in the work place and Kelly's book was one of the top ten mentioned as well as the new behavior modification software, Neurosync. I'm glad I bought both. I have reread Kelly's book three times and make a practice of applying the lessions. Even though I'm considered a great business success, I'm always looking for new ideas and methods to apply. Buy this book for the College student, your spouse and yourself.

Summary: Outstanding and Useful Treatment of How Stars Are Made
Review: I read alot and only once in a few years do I find a book that totally redefines my picture of the world. This is such a book.

"How to Be a Star at Work" is a must read for every employee who wants to become more effective at work and in life, and managers/recruiters that want to improve their team effectiveness over time. What really impressed me is how much sense it really makes, yet how different the attributes indicated as important to develop are from those most commonly associated with stardom.

In that the attributes identified can all be learned and improved throughout a career, it brings me great hope and faith.

Summary: Please, not again with the "you can do it" attitude!
Review: I read thru most of the reviews in here for this book and I was laughing. All of the 5 star ratings. What a load of garbage. Everyone who read this book and rated it 5 stars should ask themselves this: Where was I before I read the book and where am I now? I would bet you that most if not all of the answers would be "in the same place". Maybe mentally you are in a better place but from a money and position point of view you are exactly where you were before you read it. Do yourself a favor, instead of spending your money on this book buy your boss lunch and talk to him or her directly about your career and moving up, taking on more responsibilities. Then, go to the library and check out the book. The money you spend on lunch will have greater benefits than most of the stuff and re-hashed ideas in this book. If I sound a little cynical, so be it. Work stinks and no one gets anywhere anymore by being the good worker. It just doesn't happen. Look out for number one and go for the money!

Summary: It even helped me
Review: I was born into a family of fishmongers--but, through a fierce dedication to self maximization (and the credit goes to Tom Peters) was able to pursue a most rewarding (and if I may say so) blindingly successful career as a corporate takeover strategist. For those people who I have liberated from their 9to5's, I plan to purchase copies. They were unaware of the Power Inherent in them. I re-engineered their former activation levels, thereby allowing them to seek New Ground (chapter 6). And that's where this masterwork of Proactivational Insight takes over -- it allows them to proactively assert New Levels (chapter 8). Maybe even the Second Wave? Yes, I can hear their waves crashing now. This book has found its home snuggling up with my favorite laptop.

Summary: A very practical guide. A gem.

Summary: Totally awesome
Review: I've worked for about 10 years at one large corporation and only got a glimpse of what this book covered. I've always been confused by the management speak about what they wanted when they had a hard time communicating it. This book clears up a lot of issues for me. I think I can stay true to myself and still be a star performer based on what I've read. I think this book will save me at least another five years in figuring out how to be a star performer. If you are mentoring someone new you can make yourself look like a hero by getting this person this book. They'll come up to speed without all the cynicism that they might otherwise fall into after running into road blocks. Only other thing I can recommend is "The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem" by Nathaniel Branden which explains I think the other half of how to be a star performer.

Summary: Amazing insight in what makes us succeed
Review: In practice it works!. As a former student of Dr. Kelley, having taken his advice and applying it to real life situations and having read the book, it is very conforting to see that the concepts hold and will hold for the years to come. I am happy to have read the book and to see that there is a pragmatic approach towards becoming a valuable resource for a company. Highly recommendable

Summary: Wonderful practical advise that anyone can apply
Review: It is with great pleasure that I highly recommend Robert Kelly's latest and greatest book, "How to be a star at work". What a resource of practical advise based on facts, not anecdotes! The examples he provides perfectly illustrate his points. My wife and I laughed and cried over several that hit close to home. The first chapter describing the twists and turns of his research process should be must reading for budding scientists everywhere.

I have purchased several copies for friends and business associates. In addition it is my recommendation for the best business book of the year.
