Summary: Listen to Jeff..Start NOW..Be patient..Accumulate wealth
Review: "I purchased the book last Friday. Warren would be proud. It's the best $15 dollar investment I've ever made. Witty, concise, very informative, and fun to read. The best book available for the long-term investor with relatively little money to start with.Eliminate the middle man and Direct Invest."

Summary: One of the best ways for most of us to invest...
Review: Direct investment plans allow you to continually buy stock directly from companies -- typically at zero commission -- in very small to very large dollar amounts. Because of this, these plans are ideal for the majority of us who wish to invest in leading companies and who, on average, are beginning "small" and hope to become "large." (And even if you already have a good sum of money, these plans are beneficial.)

This book was written to make direct investing understandable and accessible to everyone (and to keep people smiling during the learning process). Too many people don't realize that they can begin to invest in world-class companies like Pfizer or Coca-Cola with less than $100, and they don't realize that investing just $100 a month (or less money, if that's all they have) can lead to substantial wealth given enough time.

The written part of this book is about 100 pages and it covers all the necessary topics regarding direct investing. The book's chapters are: Part I, Intro: An Introduction to Direct Investing. Chapter 1: Why You Should Invest Sooner Rather Than Later. Chapter 2: Advantages of Direct Investment Plans. Chapter 3: How to Enroll in Direct Investment Plans. Chapter 4: Industries and Companies to Embrace. Chapter 5: Company Valuation and Performance Measures. Chapter 6: Portfolio Tracking, Recordkeeping, and Taxes. Chapter 7: When Not to Invest. Chapter 8: Selling Stock. Chapter 9: Frequently Asked Questions about Direct Investing. Part II: A complete directory of direct investment plans in which you can enroll. This list details each plan offered by the more than 1,000 companies that offer them, such as Johnson & Johnson, Coca-Cola, Pfizer, Intel -- and over 996 others.

This book is best for beginners who are new to direct investing or investing in the stock market in general. For people already employing direct investment plans, the chapters on taxes and portfolio tracking, companies and industries to embrace, and the directory of plans may prove useful. The book is also a good practical gift (I believe -- if not, reader reviews will show it) for someone you know who wants to begin to invest, or for someone you believe should start.

I hope that "Investing Without a Silver Spoon" helps many people begin to invest (and continue to invest) in great companies successfully, whether they begin with $50, or with $100, or with... well, you know. More. More is not required, however. --Jeff Fischer, for The Motley Fool.

Summary: Helped me start saving!
Review: Great book for a starting investor who wants to save money on brokerage fees! I had zero knowledge on DRIP's and DSP's. This book helped me get started setting up an account and in picking a company to invest in long-term. This is the best investing book I have ever read. Jeff Fischer's writing style is comprehensable and fun to read. I loved it!

Summary: Great book for beginning investors
Review: I bought this book because it promised that I coud start investing with very little cash, and it has delivered. I have just about finished the book, and am already planning on starting investing in my first DRIP plan. I highly recommend that anyone who needs to start investing look into direct investment plans, and consider buying this book.

Summary: Best direct investing book
Review: I have purchased three direct investing books, and this one is by far the best... comprehensive and easy to follow... they arrange the info on investment plans in a clean format... don't worry about direct investment plans being too complicated... they're very easy and everyone should get involved with them... this is a good book for getting started.

Summary: Very easy to read, very comprehensive!
Review: I'm just starting out as an investor, so I picked up this book on someone's suggestion. It's really easy to read, and tells you everything you need to know. I can't believe that more people aren't already investing in the "DRIP" plans that this book recommends. I'm going to start investing for the first time, thanks to this book!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Lots of good info
Review: Lots of good info about basic investing for beginners, but the last half of the book is a list of all companies which offer DSPs or DRiPs and anyone can find this out for themselves as it is a matter of public record.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good Short Intro to Drips
Review: The book was helpful however realize that about 2/3 of the book is straight info about specific companies that anyone can get on the web.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent resource of information.
Review: The first third of this book is detailed information about how to analyze stock numbers, ratios, etc. That's quite valuable information and key to developed a system of analysis to figure out the stocks in which you want to invest.

What surprised me was the *rest* of the book! They compiled a comprehensive list of hundreds and hundreds of companies which have dividend reinvestment and related plans. This made calling those companies for more info so easy! So easy to get started with investing my savings for the long term. BUY THIS -- you won't regret it.
