Rating: Summary: Review for EDL 501 Review: This book was required for a graduate course through Nova University. I used this book along with the information from the instructor's weekly lectures to complete assignments. Curriculum Improvement Decision Making and Process provided a historical foundation that was enlightening to me. As a classroom teacher I talk about and use the word curriculum on a daily basis. However, a sense of meaning developed after having read some background on the struggles and the efforts people have undertaken throughout the years to make the necessary curriculum changes to improve the nation's schools and to enhance the learning process for our children.

Rating: Summary: Curriculum Planning by Roanld C. Doll Review: Although the textbook is very technique in composition, it has a lot of relevant information for someone like myself beginning in the CIT program. It was very informative in that it provided lost so background information on specific topics. The author provided an abundance of examples and models to utilize when teaching various concepts. Rating: Summary: Curriculum Improvement Needs Improvement Review: The textbook Curriculum Improvement. Decision Making Process by Ronald C. Doll (1996) is hard to read. I found many of the analogies used throughout the book improper and inappropriate. I had to read over paragraphs several times before I finally understood the point Mr. Doll was trying to make. This book is not appropriate for a 6-week graduate level course taken over the Internet. If this were used in a classroom setting, students would have opportunities to discuss the book with fellow classmates and the instructor. Mr. Doll does however, do a thorough job in examining the subject of curriculum improvement.
Rating: Summary: Curriculum development and change, a history and how-to Review: Curriculum Improvement by Ronald C. Doll I truly appreciated the thoroughness of this scholarly text, as well as the balanced,carefully-worded presentation of thoughts and history regarding curriculum development and improvement. The only negative aspect of this book is that I found the text difficult to read when I was tired because of its somewhat tedious attention to every single aspect of curriculum development and change. This is not really a negative because it is also part of what makes Doll's book an absolutely incredible resource. I found myself writing in the margins on at least every other page, which for me is a sign of interest or importance of the subject. The only thing I would change about this book would be to make the subject index more complete.
Rating: Summary: Curriculum Planning Review: Curriculum Improvement,Decision Making and Process by Ronald C.Doll, is a helpful tool for new and veteran teachers to expand their knowledge base. The book is full of detailed information, and will hopefully help educators to make much needed changes to the educational system.
