Rating: Summary: Curriculum Improvement: Decision Making and Process Review: The textbook written by Doll, Ronald C. curriculum Improvement: Decision making and process I found to be very informative. It was important to me how the book took me through the stages of curriculum development making the language easy to comprehend. The numerous examples and activities enable the reader to understand strategies and procedures in curriculum not only in the classroom but also in general. The book is a great asset to anyone planning on teaching, already teaching or interested in an administrative position or otherwise.
Rating: Summary: Curriculum Improvement by Ronald C. Doll Review: Curriculum Improvement by Ronald C. Doll is a valuable tool for understanding the curriculum. After thoroughly examining the historical and philosophical foundations of curriculum, Doll guides the reader through the process of curriculum improvement. Through numerous examples and activities, the reader is able to investigate strategies and procedures that help provide practical methods for implementing change within the curriculum.
Rating: Summary: A Must Have for Curriculum Planning Review: This book was a req uired text for an online course. The book provided a wealth of information and helped guide me through the course with ease. This is definitely a book that every educator should keep.
Rating: Summary: Needs Work! Review: The Curriculum Planning text by Doll was very technical, I personally felt it would have been much more helpful if it incorporated real life scenarios into the theory. In addition, the information in the textbook was not very helpful on the Florida Educational Leadership Exam. The test contained alot of scenarios which required you to utilize the theory. I would like Nova to replace this text with a scenario driven text.
Rating: Summary: Evaluation of Textbooks Review: There are definite pros and cons to the textbook entitled Curriculum Improvement: Decision Making and Process. On the affirmative side, the textbook is comprehensive and current. The research supporting the books' information is extensive. On the negative side, this writer feels there is too much text on each page and the 'figures' are very weak. There is no glossary and a feeble index. Also, the 'activities' are useless to me. Perhaps some suggested solutions to the activity sections would have been helpful.
Rating: Summary: Curriculum Improvement Review: The book contains a wealth of knowledge. It is easy to read and an excellent resource in future courses.
Rating: Summary: Great Curriculum Resource Review: If you are taking a college course in school curriculum, this is the text for you. I have used it, and it offers a history of curriculum, as well as real life situations in curriculum design.
Rating: Summary: Curriculum Improvement: Decision Making and Process 9th Ed. Review: Mr. Doll did a splendid job in writing Curriculum Improvement. I especially liked his method of writing that allowed a non-educator to read this text with confidence, ease and understanding. He did a wonderful job using each situation that related to real life issues that are a part of our curriculum today. However, I do feel that the number of situations and activities could have been lessened.
Rating: Summary: A good historical overview Review: This book did a very thorough job of giving both a historical background, and a discussion of the considerations that are necessary when designing curriculum. Including descriptions and comparisons of curricula over the past 200 years, Doll helps educators understand the historical perspective, while also giving the necessary basics for designing curriculum in the present day. I particularly appreciated the discussion of society's role in teacher expectations, as well as its impact on student's everyday activities, achievements, and behavior.
Rating: Summary: The Theme of It All Review: Roberts and Kellough have developed a book that does just what its name implies. They guide students through a step by step process of creating an interdisciplinary thematic unit. The book is a helpful tool for teachers who want to move into the realm of true professionalism. Accepting the challenge of teaching thematically and cross-curricularly is a big responsibility for a teacher. With the help of this foolproof manual, every teacher can take the plunge with confidence.
