Rating: Summary: One of the best management tools I have in my arsenal ! Review: I read this book on a plane between Dallas and Boston and by the time I returned to my office, I had a new outlook on how to not only draw the best from my employees; but also how to remove the negative components from my organization. Straight-forward, to the point and very honest...a fantastic primer for managers at all levels...I've re-read it three times already !
Rating: Summary: Sound, practical reminders for success. Review: Excellent. The only thing that could improve this set of four audio tapes would be for Mr. Pitino to get some voice coaching and rerecord the tapes. I was expecting a great motivating voice, but Mr. Pitino sounds stale and staged. He is obviously reading something word for word. The only thing missing was the sound of the pages turning. But the BOTTOM LINE - VERY INSPIRATIONAL!!!
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ! Review: I bought one for all my employees and my manager. Enough said
Rating: Summary: Outstanding, a must read Review: This book provides an outstanding look at how to achieve success. I have read hundreds of business, leadership and success books. This is one of the best.
Rating: Summary: Exceptional ideology for motivating yourself and others. Review: The age old ideology that our success and happiness ultimately depends on what we think, while obviously nothing that we haven't heard before, is masterfully explained by Coach Pitino in this highly motivational book. The book is full of sound principles that can be used in any walk of life. While the underlying theme that success is a choice is simplistic and easily understandable, actually choosing a positive attitude in your everyday life is one of those things that is easier said than done, and the inspirational stories that Pitino tells from his experiences in the book are fuel for anyone's motivational fire and help make choosing and maintaining the positive attitude that is necessary for success an easier choice to make. I would rate this book right up there with the best self-help books of all time like those by Dale Carnegie and Stephen Covey.
Rating: Summary: One of the best self-help books I have ever read. Review: I refer to this book just about every single day of my life. It has changed my whole attitude about how I look at each day . I personally thanked Rick Pitino for writing the book.
Rating: Summary: Coach Pitino has practical and motivational methods. Review: The basis of this book is to "work hard". He goes into the "whys" of working hard. How to convince yourself and others you lead of the payoffs of hard work.
Rating: Summary: I WISH I HAD A COACH LIKE THIS Review: I had read an article by Rick Pitino and was impressed by his philosophy. When I saw he had written this book, I had to buy it. At first I thought, "Oh great, basketball stories" I don't play basketball or any other sport, but as I read the stories of this coach's players pushing themselves to their physical best, I became very inspired. There is no way around hard work, dedication and persistence. When we see people who do their thing really well, we don't realize the WORK that went into getting to that point. I have highly recommend this book to my friends and told my children I would love for them to read this book, but I would have to buy them their own copies as I carry mine around with me all the time!
Rating: Summary: great insights on how to achieve success Review: After listening to Coach Pitino, I can see why he is a great motivator and articulate speaker. His ten step philosophy is easy to follow. He flashes back to his personal experiences, both on and off the court. Not quite as great as Pat Riley's The Winner Within but an excellent program for the road to success.
Rating: Summary: A Good Book to Inspire You to Greatness Review: I listened to this on the audio CD's (3 of them). Then I gave it to my wife who listened and my son is next. This will point out Rick's 10 ways to earn success with plenty of anecdotes along the way. It sounds like he's reading a script in a couple spots, but don't let that distract you. It's well worth it.One of his premises is that successful people *deserve* it - it's not luck or magic. And to deserve it, you need the preparation, hunger and determination to overachieve. If this book can't get you going, nothing can. Get it.
