Summary: Straight talk from the coach.
Review: Everything he says in the book makes sense.
The most enjoyable part was the real life examples that make you feel that anything he says is possible.
Like all books you should use the "shopping cart" method knowing you won't agree with everything and that is ok. The stuff you don't like don't put in your "shopping" cart but leave it. The stuff you do like, take it with you and apply it.
Book is well organized and easy to read. I'm glad my boss recommended it to me and I'm the farthest thing from a sports fan and still enjoyed it very much.

Summary: Success For Sales Reps
Review: This book provides a no nonsense simple approach to success. The basic premise is that you need to make a choice every day, that choice is to be successful or not successful. By choosing to be successful, you need to undertake a number of behaviors to make sure that you are successful. If you are not successful, you have made the choice to not do the things needed to succeed. It is so simple, I am buying it for the 12 sales representatives that work for me so that they can better understand choosing success.

Summary: Overachieving IS A GOOD THING!
Review: If you're an "overachiever," an individual who gives the extra effort, or if you want to be motivated in that direction, this is an excellent book to read. In a simple, common sense-priented, "pleasure to read" format, Pitino lays it all out for anyone wishing to get ahead, confirm he or she is headed in the right direction or for someone who just needs a little pep talk to put his or her life on the right track. This is a sharp "how to" for people wanting to dedicate themselves to improvement or for properly managing employees.

Summary: Some Good Advice but Not Too Deep
Review: This book is a very fast read and Pitino hammers home some key points such as setting realistic short term goals. Also he emphasizes the importance of maintaining focused and keeping a positive attitude. He gives some examples from his coaching experiences. Some stories stand out more than others.

However, many parts of this book seem to repeat itself. Pitino does not distinguish each chapter enough. Somehow Pat Riley's The Winner Within offers better examples that are more special. None the less there is more good than bad and and any sports fan will appreciate Pitino's basic candor.

Summary: If success is a choice, why ate the Celts still bad?
Review: I respect Rick Pitino as a coach and basketball man but wish he would use his 10 steps to motivate his own financial basketball albatross, Antoine Walker. Until then, Pitino's words are just lip service to me...

Summary: Success is a Choice
Review: If you are lazy, like sports, and enjoy business, then Success is a Choice by Rick Pitino, is the book for you. Rick Pitino was the coach of the Kentucky Wildcat basketball team and now is the coach for the Boston Celtics which is an NBA team. He has won two national titles for the University of Kentucky and knows how to coach and teach student athletes. Rick uses ten steps to teach overachieving in business and life. He explains each one and gives examples from his life experiences. Many of his experiences come from his basketball coaching career. Rick is a very inspirational guy and has taught me many life lessons from his experiences. This book was easy for me to read because I have played basketball in my life. This book does not compare to any other books that I have read before. As I said before, this book contains a lot of advise and lessons to become successful in business and life. The only thing that I can even compare this book to is a "how-to" which tells us how to be successful. This book serves as an identical twin to my writing because most of my metaphors in my writing contain the theme, hard work=success. A quote to support this from the book is on the very first page where it says, "According to Churchill, victory comes only to those who work hard and long, who are willing to pay the price in blood, sweat, and tears. " This is exactly what I use in my writing. The plot of this book really dealt along the line of something implying to success. All of the ten steps that Rick uses all have a certain connection with success. The main theme throughout this whole book was that it is up to yourself to become successful. Someone can't just do everything for you, you have to work for it was along the line of his theme. A quote that supports this is, "Success won't hapen unless you choose to make it happen. Success is not a lucky break. It is not a divine right. It is not an accident of birth. Success is a Choice." The language in this story is very easy to understand because it is layed straight out to the reader. A quote that supports this is when it says,"Our self-esteem is the value we put on ourselves. It's the person we see when we look in the mirror." This is very simple to read and understand. In my writing I have used a lot of techniques and ideas that Rick used for this book. I write about sports a lot in my writing, because I play a lot of sports. This book was easy for me to understand because I can relate to it in my own writing and in my life. I enjoyed reading this book a lot because of the whole success idea. I also firmly believe that success comes from hard work because the person who worked hard deserves some reward and success. Also, I liked this book because it was very organized in its thoughts and in the ten steps to achieve success. I really like the way it was layed out. On the other hand, I can see why this book would not be enjoying because it is mostly an inspirational and advise book which many readers don't like to read. Also, they might find it hard to concentrate throughout reading this entire book.

Summary: Worth your time....Definitely!
Review: This book stands out from a lot of others that are out there. Success Is A Choice has real life examples and real life-affirming messages that can easily be carried over into many different areas of life - not just basketball. Rick Pitino, thank you for writing a book like this. People think that going to college and getting good grades is what it's all about - but it's not. This is what it's about, and this is a book that sets aside insights that can help you in many situations that you come to in your life. Peace out everyone.

Summary: GREAT BOOK
Review: I have looked at some other "Motivational" Books, but this one blows them all away Rick explains in plain English on how to change your life. The concepts are simple and easy to follow . Some are even obvious, but people just dont realize. it is a book for people of all ages.

Summary: This book is a SUCCESS!!!!
Review: Rick Pitino is a genius at getting the maximum effectiveness from people regardless of obstacles. Having his exact philosophies on my home bookshelf is a joy and provides instant motivation on days where I feel lazy, unmotivated or unfocused. Everyone occassionally needs a jump start and Coach Pitino is a walking kick in the butt. But what's important is that he conveys the "Why's" of his messages, meaning that there is purpose to his ideas and that is what makes you remember each step because they really do provide the framework for deserving success. Lots of people like to think they know everything it takes to be truly successful, but ironically very few of us actually are. This honest, gut-checking book will definitely be a constant reminder and functional compass to make sure any reader is pointed in the right direction. I can't recommend it highly enough. Now I'm going out to get the CD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: The best book I've ever read. It changed my life.
Review: I read this book my junior year in college. It instantly changed my life. Rick Pitino is the greatest motivator in sports. I wanted to be a football coach before I read the book, now that I'm done, I not only want to be a football coach, I want to be the best football coach I can be. This book also has a great game plan of how I'm going to rise to the top of the coaching profession. I will never forget this book, I will always have a copy handy.
