Summary: The don juan for biochem books
Review: As a Doctor of Pharmacy student, I came across this book during the beginning of the semester while taking biochemistry. This book in my opinion should be owned by all students in the medicinal field. Getting an A in the class was made alot easier to me just because of this book. I found myself using Harper's more than the original required class text book. At a great price compartively with information given..this book is a must. Ive also used Lippincotts Illustrated Biochemistry,as good as that book is, I would say spend the extra 15$ and get one that is alot more in detail.

Summary: it is VERY confusing, badly organised and HARD to read
Review: bassically that

It is the text we used in our course, and we (the students) didn't like it very much and resorted to other books.

Harper's is not detailed enough in some things, and is very random in its thoughts. It doesn't explain things clearly. Quite hard to read.

Summary: Detailed information presented in a succinct manner
Review: Harper's Biochemistry is the best biochemistry textbook I have used. Its coverage of medical biochemistry is very thorough plus is easy to use and understand. I would strongly recommend this textbook to any student taking a biochemistry course, regardless of whether it's for medical school or college.

Summary: Top-of-the-Pop reference book
Review: I am a medical student having studied medicine and biochemistry for the past 3 years. I found the Harper's Biochemistry by a coincidence on the university library.......it is now my favored reference on biochemical and some physiological matters being very concise with more specific details than many other biochemistry textbooks. Said that, I might have more value in your last periods of biochemistry and physiology and as a reference for the rest of your study. Thats why you should go to the library to try it for a couple of months. But then again....you will not be disappointed. S. Wiedemann - Denmark.

Summary: Harpers'
Review: i am a medical student studying at NTU in taiwan. Harpers' biochemistry is the text used in our biochemistry course. Though other reviews have commented Harpers' as an excellet book for its medical and physiological applications, I find it one of the most difficult textbooks I have ever encountered. Perhaps Lehninger or another text would have been a much better choice for a first encounter with biochemistry.

Summary: The most informative text in biochemistry
Review: I have read this book for the first time when I am a biochemistry undergraduate and kept it as a reference through out my MSc and PhD studies, but I have not owned any of the recent editions. For me this is the most informative and self-explaned reference in biochemistry

Summary: Gret book
Review: I think this book has been quite underrated by most reviewers. I think this probably happened because they expected this book to be a typical textbook on the subject. THIS IS NOT IT! This is not only a very concise and straight-to-the-point book but also a reference for extra-quick study because in the end of each chapter it as a quite complete and easy to read summary which allows you to check if you really understood the preceding pages. One other aspect that is important for me as a medical student is that this book also talks about the clinical correlations of a theme, allowing you to integrate the most important topics in your memory. One last advice: you can follow this book by itself but if you really want to have perfect knowledge on a subject get a book like Devlin's biochemistry to complete your study a lot more.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Confusing, bad organized.
Review: Isn't the book you need if you have trouble with biochemistry. I often tried to search for answers about general topics and couldn't get a single one. If you are a med student, better switch to Lehninger's Principles of Biochemistry.
