Summary: Authoratative and illustrative
Review: Great book after a long time on the Water Distribution network modelling. It is a must for beginers, with a lot of material for the experinced WDN modellers. Section on pumps is very detailed. Illustrations make the reading interesting and self explainatory. Overall it is a good book on the subject.

Review: Review of: Water Distribution Modeling by Haestad

The limited amount that I have used this book has been very helpful for fire flow and water distribution calculations. I used this for both of these on two projects to date.

1. An eight unit residential building with fire flow.

2. A ten acre commercial shopping plaza with eight buildings and an extension for future development.

The book proved useful to determine pressure drop in the water mains from friction, flow, and elevation.

I only rated it a three, since I have not used it extensively. The rating for the usage to date would be a four.

Summary: Good Help For Water Modelers
Review: I reviewed most of the book in a day. I thought it was a good overview for what a water modeler should know. I especially like the information about calibration and pipe roughnesses.

Summary: An Engineer's Opinion
Review: This is an excellent reference manual for engineers who are involved in pressure distribution systems. The manual begins with the fundamentals of hydraulics and the derivations of the commonly used equations. The later chapters of the manual explain the application of the equations by using real world problems. Although the book does discuss hydraulic modeling software, it is focused on explaining the concepts and principles of hydraulic modeling. The demo software that is included with the manual allows the user to apply the principles taught in the manual. The user manual for the software is electronic, which allows the reader to separate software application issues, from the hydraulic principle issues taught in the manual. The examples and work problems at the end of each chapter, represent problems that are commonplace. The book is a great resource, and one that I will keep as part of my personal library.

Summary: Well done!
Review: The book is very well written and organized. It can be considered a very helpful tool in terms of educational support as well as basic consulting.
I would recommend the book for academic and professional purposes in the field of hydraulic engineering.

Summary: AN INVALUABLE RESOURCE
Review: Water Distribution Modelling has a wealth of practical and thoroughly researched information about modelling, analysing and designing any size of water reticulation system. The book's authors have the highest credentials and this is reflected in every chapter. A characteristic of this manual is the completeness in the way in which it covers this broad subject - from the theory, through assembling the model, calibrating it and applying it to problem situations. Although the book is supplied with an academic version of WaterCAD, the authors have commendably avoided focusing on this model and it is equally applicable to those using other models. The touches of humour throughout help to remind us that we're water engineers because we love it! This book should make a significant impact in the industry is to be highly recommended for anyone practising in this field.

Summary: Theory meets practise
Review: We have over 1000 miles and eight pressure zones in our water distribution system. There are many times when we check subsystems or system connections and the ability to apply site-specific models allows for efficient management of the problems. The theory and applications in Water Distribution Modelling allow my engineers a quick but effective set of theory and tools to do the day-to-day analyses we need performed.

Summary: Water Modelling in Central and Latin America
Review: The Water Distribution Modeling has provided excellent guidance, both in practical and theoretical areas to design small scale water distribution networks in Central America. Next month, the book will be a prime reference source to assist in the design of a water system for a series of communities in the Beni tropical region of Bolivia.

To sum up Water Distribution Modelling is a versatile and balanced reference book that really assists in small water supply system designs.

Summary: A Good Refresher Course
Review: I sat down with the book and started reading. I found that I was able to pick out a lot of advice just from reading straight through that helped us in setting up our model. I would recommend this book.
