Rating: Summary: Great Help Review: After needing desparate help on a project when all else fails, read a great book, very informative and concise in their expalnations and examples.
Rating: Summary: More than just modeling Review: Sometimes you pick up a book for one reason and then after having read it, you realize you accomplished the unexpected. I wanted to gain an understanding of water distribution models so we could explore the benefits of interfacing modeling software to our automation systems. Of course, what I really discovered was my limited understanding of water distribution in the first place. This book filled in the blanks. If you are interested in modeling and still have a thing or two to learn about water distribution, this is your source. You will see how water systems function from a mathematical point-of-view, learn how the process equipment works and see operations in a "cause and effect" sense. The authors' passion for their work clearly shows. This is also serious material and you will appreciate the many humor breaks throughout.
Rating: Summary: Refreshes the memory Review: This has become my most used source book for all my hydraulic questions. I can now go to one book in our library rather than going back to my old college textbooks. The information on modeling is concise and easily understandable. A very good investment. Thank you.
Rating: Summary: Water Distribution Modelling Review: I found the Haestad Methods publication titled 'Water Distribution Modelling' an extremely absorbing text. Positively, the most significant contribution to the literature on Simulation and Modelling of Water Distribution Systems over the last 15 years. From the point of view of a practicing Engineer in this area, it is a very powerful addition to his armoury of resource material and with the advantage that it is available in a single text. A four star publication indeed! There are, however, a couple of points which I would have liked to read in greater detail. These are: (1) The discussion on evolutionary algoriths like Genetic Algorithms and its application to Calibration of Distribution systems would have been a welcome inclusion. Presently a great deal of research is underway in this area and some discussion of the varuious approaches to implementation of GA based techniques is missing. As an example, performance of niche, speciation, elitism and other exotic GA operators would have been desirable. (2) The treatment of 'leakage' should have been a separate chapter. This book does not give an adequate treatment on this topic. Over all, I find this a top notch publication. R. Khosa
Rating: Summary: A good solid book, both pysically and conceptually! Review: With plenty of tables, diagrams and practical applications, this is a superb book for anyone in the field. It is written in such a way as to be accessible for students and practitioners alike. The contents are descriptive enough for someone to find exactly what they need in relation to Water Distribution Modelling, and the CD-ROM is a nice addition. I cannot see any part of this subject which could have been missed.
Rating: Summary: Water Distribution Modeling Review Review: This book provides modelers with just about everything we need in one place, and it is rarely more than an arm's length away from my computer! The chapters cover the topics that modelers encounter from creation of the network to the finer points of calibration. Since it was written by Haestad Methods staff, it compliments the WaterCAD software perfectly. The illustrations are clean and simple, and are great tools for explaining information to non-technical staff and clients. I would recommend this book to anyone using WaterCAD.
Rating: Summary: Staff Engineer Review: Outstanding resource, a must have for the practicing engineer. Takes you from basic to complex applications with discussion topics and problems along the way. Great if you have limited interaction with modeling and need a refresher. Well worth the investment.
Rating: Summary: Water Distribution Modeling Review: This book is a must have for any professional engineer dealing with water distribution. The book is a great reference manual and it easily capable of answer all water distribution questions.
Rating: Summary: Could it get any better? Review: This Modeling Book and software are being used as standards for all infrastructure utility contracts and engineering data in Polk County Florida. There are many other programs but for the money this is the best with the most information, best graphics and simple export to other programs. Even the lawyers and business students seem to understand the engineering presentations.
Rating: Summary: Must Have.... Review: A must have book when dealing with water modeling. My office has had multiple people working on the same model over the last three months. This book has been great in giving us a starting point to keep the model consistent.
