Rating: Summary: Pick Me Up! Fun Songs for Learning Signs Review: As an educational interpreter for the Deaf, I have very high standards when it comes to sign language products. This CD is AMAZING! Very professionally produced. The activity guide is outstanding. It comes with lyrics, pictures of signs, hints, and more. Let's not forget the songs are a BLAST! I am a 30 something adult, and find myself singing the "more milk" song all the time. Kids of all ages will love it. I plan on using it in my sign language classes. I highly recommend this CD and activity guide. Even more, the CD, when put in my macintosh, has bonus material about how to teach the signs. Very helpful if you're not a "professional." Anyone can learn!

Rating: Summary: Gabby Meter - 10 Review: Gabby (22 months) can not take a car ride without it! She dances with her hands, as we call it! She has picked up so many songs and words and uses them in the real world as well. Highly interactive and fun to dance and sing to in the house as well. She is so entertaining to watch when listening to the up beat and diverse tune selections. Everything from the "Beach Boys" to folk music... It gives a little to all.
Rating: Summary: My baby is dancing out of her carseat!!! Review: How priviledged we feel to have found this CD/book set! Our 16 month old LOVES the music. The songs are exciting, uplifting, and are incredibly contagious to the listener. I find myself replaying track 12 (the Zoo song) over and over and over again! As our child is being raised in a bilingual home, the signs that she is learning has been an incredible asset to her! The more signs she is learning, the less frustrated she and we become. I play the CD ALL the time in the car. Our daughter just jumps out of her seat as she signs to all the new familiar tunes and watches me sign with one hand to her (and one hand on the wheel!). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS for your children or as a great gift idea!

Rating: Summary: A special ed teacher's #1 pick! Review: I am a special education teacher and just finished my Masters degree in special education, learning disabilities. I have seen a variety of materials and resources out there to assist students with special needs. I find that techniques and methods used for my students also benefit the non-disabled students. However it is not enough to buy the latest crazed method or item. To truly benefit children, it must be research based with evidence of it's effectiveness. Let me tell you, this book is amazing! The thing I like the most is that research backs up teaching young children sign language. There have been numerous studies published in prestigous journals that provide evidence that children who are delayed in language can improve their oral language by learning nonverbal communication systems (www.asha.org, 2004). This can only benefit children who acquire language at a normal rate. I started teaching my baby girl sign language at 8 months. Little did I know that at 2 years old, she would be delayed in her language ability. She uses her signs to express what she wants along with her words. I wish I had this book back then! The signs are fun, functional and occur in everyday life. The music is outstanding..you hear a WIDE variety... from calypso, country to even an elvis type singer. The songs make you want to get up and move. They teach children how to communciate their needs in a fun way...how to ask for more food, types of foods, types of animals, getting hurt, body parts, transportation and asking for a diaper change! Some of the songs are really funny..like the elvis one. You won't get burnt out on this one...it has 20 different songs! The book provides the lyrics and examples of the signs used in the songs. It's really easy to follow and understand, even if you have no background in sign language. I would HIGHLY recommend this book/CD to every family. You never know, your child might really need it later down the line if you find them delayed in their language. Enjoy!!
Rating: Summary: Pick Me Up is what signing families have been waiting for!!! Review: I have been signing with my daughter for 3 years now, since she was 6 months old. Signing along with songs has always been a favorite activity of ours and has helped us both to learn and remember hundreds of signs. The 'PICK ME UP' CD and Acitivty guide are an answer to a prayer!!!! Even if it had no signing or activity guide it would still be worth it's wait in gold for the fantastic children's music. WITH the signing activities it is just priceless! My daughter talks our ears off now, so no longer needs to use signs to communicate with us, but she LOVES to dance her little butt off as she signs along with this CD. By the way-- this music has children's lyrics but does not sound like sappy childrens music. It won't drive you crazy after you hear it several hundred times in the car (as you steer with your forhead while signing).Way to go Sign with your Baby!!!
Rating: Summary: A great tool for anyone wanting to learn ASL Review: I have been using this product to teach Sign Language to over 100 hearing pre-schoolers and they can't get enough of it! Being an active member of the Deaf community, true American Sign Language was an important factor in my decision to purchase and implement this product in to my lessons. Northlight has done a fantastic job at making sure true ASL is used and lots of explanation is given for the novice. I highly reccomend this product to anyone wanting to learn American Sign Language, young or old alike! My only concern is not knowing when volume 2 is coming out!X?!X Northlight: Keep up the fabulous work Everyone else: Buy this product!!
Rating: Summary: Pick Me Up!, a "must have" for signing enthusiasts Review: I have signed for 20 years and have taught sign language at elementary, secondary, and university levels and this is the best sign language product I have yet encountered. The sign illustrations are clear and easy to mimic and the songs are fun and engaging. They make kids (and adults alike) want to move their bodies, so the signing is just a natural extention of that movement. Really fabulous product!!!
Rating: Summary: A great resource for parents, a lot of fun for kids! Review: I signed with my daughter from the time she was 7 months old. Now she's two and a half, and I'm amazed at her communication skills and verbal ability. I give signing with her at least part of the credit. This book & CD are *excellent* resources for signing parents to have, to help round out the vocabulary they're trying to teach their babies. It's also great for older children, who will enjoy acting out the behaviors in the songs, making animal sounds, and matching signs to the appropriate lyrics. As far as children's music goes, it's 100% palatable for adults -- with songs imitating the styles of such immortals as James Brown, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and Bob Marley, it entertains me as much as it does my daughter!
