Review: ... what I was doing. All that time I worked with some of the top creative advertising people in Memphis who shared ideas with me as we worked for some pretty big clients like Holiday Inn. Somehow, when it came to promoting myself, especially the true art that I do because I love it, the song of my soul, I wasn't selling the work that meant the most to me. I was baffled and discouraged. I mean, that is why I got into this business in the first place. I have tried reading and applying all the rules, but none seemed to be a proper fit for my brain, my heart, my world. Then I read this book. This guy understands what it is like in here. Using visual, emotional images, and humor he gets the points across in an organized, interesting way. He innoculates the reader with hope. Everytime I read another section, my mind started leaping off from his ideas into my own. I felt like I was drinking a pot of coffee ... I got excited, like he was a cheerleader excited for me personally. He covers everything. This book approaches problems in a variety of ways, so it helps open up new categories , new ways of problem-solving. Practical,fun,and a gentle, but true mirror on the ways we sabotage ourselves. This book has changed the way I think. Wish I had read it years ago.

Review: Being new to the world of marketing myself and my products, I hadn't a clue as to where to start! I happened upon this book, recommended by a friend. As I started to read, I got a jolt of lightning! This was good stuff! I could apply these ideas to my work! No matter where you start in the book, you won't be able to put it down. Keep a highlighter in your hand, you will want to use it to flag ideas that you will use! It is easy to read, suggestions are down to earth and they work! Great resource for creative businesses!

Summary: Marketing yourself is a strategy for success...
Review: Getting the word out is a must - and you don't have to be a marketing expert to get the job done. However, it does take planning - real planning that includes establishing realistic goals, targeting your audience, and understanding how your service or product relates to them. Then it takes the guts to put your plan to work! Bottom line is that if we want people to value our creative skills - or invest time or money in our projects - they have to know who we are, what we have accomplished and why they should care! That's what I call "personal publicity." And one more thing - self-promotion is not bragging. It is a valuable business tool and a key strategy for success.

Summary: One of the best things you can do for your career...
Review: I don't know what led me to purchase Self Promotion for the Creative Person. Ordinarily I find books about promotion to be elementary and not useful. Maybe I just liked the colorful cover :) But once I got it I was so so so glad! I am a speedy reader but this took me weeks to get through because the content was so rich I had to very often stop, put it down and start thinking and writing about how I could apply the suggestions and ideas in it to my own career. It has helped me to develop myself as a writer and filmmaker like you wouldn't believe. I directly credit this book for my getting press in some local papers and making a number of good sales...and Ive only been practicing the ideas in it for about a month. I still go back and review things in it about once a week and find new things to improve my marketing plan. I would have easily paid 3 times the amount I paid for this book....well worth it!! If you are an artist, writer, filmmaker, or creative person of any kind trying to make a living or a name for yourself from your work, this book MUST be in your library.

Review: I have been searching for a good source of information for self-promotion. This book has it all. I loved that it was fun to read, not dry at all, with great examples and ancedotes to keep me interested. Us creative types have a tendency to have short attention spans. With this book, it was no problem!

Lee Silber knows what he's talking about and I can't wait to read more from him. I highly recommend this book to all creatives.
