Summary: Excellent...for what it covers
Review: As many of the previous reviewers note, this text is not as good as Glannon's E&E Civ Pro text. While this is true, it is a little misleading to just leave it at that.
The text is excellent, for the tort law that Glannon chooses to cover. The book is mainly about negligence, and Glannon does a fine job covering such a broad topic. The only problem is that, under the intentional torts, Glannon only covers assault, battery. As for defenses to intentional torts: self-defense, and consent. That is way this one is not as good as the others. The title of the book should read: "The Selected Law of Torts."
So don't be misled. This is not your end-all be-all of torts supplements. But, if your having problems with negligence, or causation, this is a fantastic reference. The examples do a great job of slowly working you though those ever so important distinctions. If the title of the book let the reader know that this book is mainly about negligence, then I would have given it 5 stars for sure. Hope this helps.

Summary: Great as usual!
Review: Buy this and High Court summaries keyed to your casebook and you're set. I also used the Gilberts and Sum and Substance 1L tapes while commuting to school--the best preparation with the least effort. AWESOME!
This book make Torts my best 1L subject. Even though I forgot a lot of details, the substance stayed with me for 1L and it got me an A in Torts. I'd recommend reading prior to the first year, and then reviewing as you complete each chapter during the semester. AWESOME especially since Glannon includes a sample exam--good luck trying to find many profs to offer that!
An ABSOLUTE MUST for 1L! You WILL get your money's worth, and if you keep it in good shape you'll find another 1L to buy it from you when you're done with it. Unless you keep it for Bar Review.
This book is like good foreign cars--the resale value stays up. :)

Summary: AVOID THIS TREATISE
Review: Generally, the Examples and Explanations series are thorough and helpful. However, this particular book falls short. There are 7 intentional torts; yet, this book only covers assault and battery. Additionally, only 2 privileges are covered -- self-defense and consent. I didn't bother looking at how the book covered negligence. Unless your Torts I class provides a survey of the material, especially the intentional torts, do NOT buy this book if you want extensive treatment of torts concepts.

Summary: Initially Puzzled But Ultimately Pleased
Review: I bought this book, but I happened to be lucky enough to have a wonderful torts professor so that I never even opened it. However, with that said, I still had experience with this book. My teacher used the examples from it constantly in class to help us understand torts, and it was wonderful. My professor openly advocates this book and many of my classmates swore by it. I do think it could use a little help on the negligence section, but if your torts professor was as horrible as some of my fellow 1Ls, then I highly recommend you purchase this book as a supplement to quiz yourself and make sure you've got those prima facie cases down pat, inside and out.

Summary: AVOID THIS TREATISE
Review: I strongly recommend against buying this book. A lot of the material covered in a first year Torts class is not covered in this book; a few examples are false imprisonment, defamation, and invasion of privacy. In addition, this book has MISTAKES in it regarding the law; one example is it does not specify the standard of care owed by a physician in a medical malpractice case correctly. Of course it does not even have a separate section dealing with duty owed by professionals...Instead of this book, I would strongly recommend Understanding Torts by Diamond (Lexis) or the Law of Torts by Dobbs (West).

Summary: Initially Puzzled But Ultimately Pleased
Review: I was expecting a book about small pastries (I LOVE pastries!), with perhaps lots of lush, full-color photos of tasty raspberry-jam-filled confections (I LOVE raspberry jam!). But, to my initial disappointment, I instead found a book explaining some kind of legal rigmarole about suing people for damaging persons or property. Despite its dry, abstract subject matter, this book actually turned out to be an extremely gripping read. (I devoured it all in one sitting, staying up all night because I just had to know how it ended.) Even if you're only interested in opening your own little patisserie and spreading joy to people through your talent with filo dough, I highly recommend this book anyway: After all, you never know when a customer might slip and fall in your shop.

Summary: An Introspective Masterpiece
Review: If you want to study Tarts this is a must read. I'll often quote from this book after some awkward moments of silence during a dinner date. Believe me the Tarts love it.
