Review: As preparation for the CCS examination, I find this book to provide excellent background material on the CPT classification system and outpatient medical coding. I'm in the beginning stages of using the text; but I am immediately impressed. It seems logical, thorough, and well-organized. While the coding exercises are an aid, it is the supporting documentation that sets this book apart from other review books I have been using. I give it a high recommendation to those of you who are searching for a comprehensive, up-to-date resource.

Review: Helpful information, but with no answer key there's no way to determine the accuracy of your exercises...it's really not worth the effort.

Summary: Still no answers to exercises
Review: I already own the earlier edition of her book and found the information is concise and informative, however, without the answers there is no way of knowing if you are coding correctly. I have used this as a supplementary book to my billing and coding class for self-study, therefore, the answers would have helped me tremendously. I was even going to buy the new edition if the answers were in it, but since they are not, I'll pass.

Summary: Where can we find the answers to the exercises?
Review: I found this book to be very helpful and informative, but the biggest downfall of all is that there are no answers to the exercises. I, unlike many readers and buyers of this textbook, was fortunate to find the textbook in my local College campus library. Therefore, I was able to check out the textbook, rather than having to purchase it. Again, the biggest disappointment is that the answers are not included. My one question, to anyone out there that is reading my review right now is --------Does anyone know where, and/or if the answers can be obtained? Maybe someone out there has been able to contact the publisher or the author of the textbook and have obtained details as to where the answers can be found? If so, then would you please share that information with the rest of us.

Review: I have been using Step-by-Step Medical Coding to teach with for the last four years. I have had excellent results with the students comprehension and building of job skills. I think she has a wonderful methodology of skill building and incremental learning.

Summary: The 4th edition DOES have the answers!
Review: I just purchased the 4th edition of Step-By-Step Medical Coding and it does have the answers! I liked this book so much, that I bought the workbook that goes along with it. The workbook also has the answers. If you are just starting out in coding, or if you need more practice, this book along with the workbook will be very helpful to you.

Review: I purchased this book for an online medical coding and reimbursement class. Overall I was disappointed. Although the author gives good examples of coding procedures, sometimes she doesn't follow through with showing examples of some of the more complex coding rules. Most frustrating was not having an answer key for readers to check their answers to the numerous exercises... particularly since medical coding stresses "accuracy, accuracy, accuracy". The frequent hand symbol of stop! was very annoying. The book does have useful info that is clearly written. However, I would not recommend spending the money for this book without an answer key included. ...

Review: I purchased this text for a class I am enrolled in -(it was not a required text)-I found it to be full of information and the exercises to be a big help-only one problem no way to get the answers to the exercises.Had I known I would be unable to purchase an answer key I may have thought twice!

Summary: Coding Instructor's Rating
Review: I teach Medical Coding and I use this textbook. It is an excellent text book. I am glad the answers to the exercises are not included. I assign the students approximately 5 exercises per night and we discuss the answers in class the following day. The students are encouraged to justify why they chose the answer they chose and this leads to some interesting discussions and insights. I have had students take my course using this text and then take and pass the AAPC Coding Exam. I believe it prepares them well for the AAPC certified professional coder exam.
