Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: This book really boosted my confidence about managing my own finances. It always made me so nervous to think about being on my own, trying to save money, doing taxes, getting insurance, all that stuff. But after reading just the first chapter of "Get a Financial Life", I felt much, much better. I highly recommend it--you will feel a lot less overwhelmed about "the real world" after reading it! Just some advice, however: according to my mom, who is a tax accountant, the tax chapter is completely out of date and not worth reading. Other than that, it's a great book.
Rating: Summary: Every twenty-something should have this book Review: This book was recommended to me by a friend when I graduated from college, now I am buying it for all my friends. It is written in plain, easy-to-understand language, so subjects like money market accounts, IRAs & mutual funds which are intimidating to most beginners are actually fun to learn about. Whether you are making a lot of money and need to learn about how to invest, or are just scraping by and need to learn about how to get the most out of tax refunds & credit cards, this is a great book.
Rating: Summary: Great book, clearly written and easy to read Review: I think this book is fabulous. It is chock-full of tips for beginners. If you don't know anything about managing money, this book is for you. The more knowledgeable might find it a bit pendantic and trite.
Rating: Summary: This is the most helpful book I've ever read. Review: I'm so grateful to Beth for writing this book. It has reallyhelped me get my finances in order. I'm just beginning to have morecomplicated finances, so it is reassuring to know I am organized and know what to do to keep myself that way. The book touches on all aspects of finances so it is perfect for someone looking for the simple solution or someone who is ready to get into the more complicated areas. This is a must-have reference for everyone.
Rating: Summary: Great Intro to the Financial World Review: This book is great for gen-x-ers and really got me motivated about saving now for retirement. A great way to get your feet wet and learn the financial jargon so you can confidently walk into an investment firm and speak the right language. I recommend this to all of my friends in their late 20s/early 30s.
Rating: Summary: A great starter book... Review: This was the best college graduation gift I received. It is a down to earth look at planning that many people don't do until their late 30s. There is stuff in here that my money-savvy parents couldn't teach me...because they aren't 20 somethings. Keep in mind that the Roth IRA now exists, and so more research needs to be done by the reader to get the full picture. Other than that, I HIGHLY reccommend this book.
Rating: Summary: THE general finance book every young person should have Review: if you're young and are beginning to worry about money, get this book. it will answer all of your questions and will carry you well through your thirties. it is classicly good advice for all ages to remember.
Rating: Summary: Required reading Review: I wish that I'd had this book six years ago when I was just starting out! This should be required for all twenty-somethings the moment they fly out of the nest. It was also very easy to read cover to cover - not boring or dry at all.
Rating: Summary: A 23 yrs old Art/English Major and I LOVE this book Review: I'm a year out of college and thank god I have this book to guide me. It's extreemly well organized and not overly detailed in a GOOD way. Examples and diagrams are plenty and reinforce Kobliner's advise. Now I can open the Wall Street Journal *not that I want to* or go into a bank and UNDERSTAND what everything is. The funny part? It's so easy: the book is actualy enjoyable to read!
Rating: Summary: Informative, well written Review: This book was easy to read. It makes understanding your finance much easier.
