Rating: Summary: Beans four principles for running a Business Review: "Beans" is an inspirational book that embraces old fashioned principles so often overlooked in today's mini-staffed businesses. This book is an easy read that would serve any business well if it were to be used as a refresher course at staff meetings.Good customer relations boosts sales and if more business owners and associates put "Beans" principles into practice, shopping would become a more pleasant experience. Rating: Summary: Stupid Amazon.com review Review: "Some people may find this story contrived...", as the Amazon.com review says. That makes me so mad. It's as if things have gotten so bad that anything positive seems contrived. I hate that. For anyone who is looking for an inspiring business story, in the midst of bad corporate news, here is the book for you. I often look for books that can inspire my somewhat jaded staff (with their own problems) and here I have found one. I was delighted that recently I went on vacation and gave this book to my employees beforehand. I came back after a week and found that not only had they read it and discussed it among themselves, but that it had made a difference in how they interacted with our customers. Every time I think business books are too simplistic, one comes along that makes a real difference.

Rating: Summary: profound principles Review: A short easy to read book with profound principles. The ideas are common sense, but achieving the correct mix and right balance may be difficult to implement.
Moreover, I like the fact that this book has a "discussion forum" via the internet. A useful read for people studying marketing / management.
On second thought, a MUST read for all (employers + employees) on how to imporve the enjoyability of their working lives!
Rating: Summary: Give it to your employees Review: Do you ever wish you could give your staff a book and they would read it and magically "get it", instead of complaining about the hours they got shorted last week? I suspect this could be the one you've been hoping for. The coffee story is interesting enough and held my attention, but I kept thinking while reading it "if only my employees could get a copy of this". Sometimes you have to push them a bit, so I ordered 30 copies and gave them out with a letter from our district manager. That actually was the kiss of death. You have to "present" this book along with a personal reccomendation that you think it can make a difference in how your employees imagine their workplace. As this book says so strongly, trust is a more powerful force than fear, so trust your employees to know this is the real thing. I don't make any money back guarantees, but I predict it has the power to change your workplace dynamic (a car rental business in my case). And guess who profits? Both your employees AND your customers.
Rating: Summary: Robert B. Mintz, Ph.D. Review: Elegantly simple! I usually loathe fables, preferring gritty text in business writing. It was recommended by a friend and I found it to be entertaining, engaging, and beautifully written. Its unique way of conveying the reassuring message that "the basics mean as much as ever in this chaotic world" is one we all need to be reminded of. This is a cautionary tale for consulting types (like yours truly) who tend to turn business problems into nuclear physics. Even your most reading avoidant client or friend will love this. Buy a supply, I keep handing them out to people. Apparently there is another book in the works . . . I've pre-ordered it. You will never look at another cup of coffee again in quite the same way . . . likewise, you will never approach a business challenge again in quite the same way.

Rating: Summary: I will recommend this, just like Amazon did Review: Here is a perfect example of show-them-and-they-will-buy. I had never heard of this book, but Amazon sent me a mailing because I have bought other management books. It looked interesting, so I clicked through and bought. I got it three days later and loved it. My point is that, being in one-to-one marketing myself, this is how it's done and Amazon wins the prize for doing it well. One of the principles in this book is "make it personal," which Amazon does by its superb tracking of customer-buying habits. If my local bookstore understood my taste level, and remembered what I had bought, I would be giving them more of my book budget.
Rating: Summary: Follow your Passion ! Review: I am a high school special education teacher and just finished reading "Beans". It was so motivating, no matter what business you are in, we all have to have a passion for our work! I loved the 4 P's principals and plan to use them in my classroom this year. I am the director of a grant for special education high school students called "WORKABILITY". We educate students about transition from school to work and support their ability to locate employment within our comunity. A common thread when we communicate with students is to choose a profession you are passionate about. I was so glad to see your philosophy is the same. If you are ever in southern california, I would love to have you speak to my classes, or just be able to meet you for coffee. Thank you for writing this book.
Rating: Summary: Great as supplemental reading Review: I am using this book as a supplemental reading in my Management 301 class. I have hardly seen anything that illustrates the principles that Kotler and Drucker talk about in their texts. I hope many of my students go out and adapt those principles in their own businesses.
