Summary: Failure to read this book IS failure!
Review: Agreeing with other reviewers, that this MUST-HAVE information is presented in easy and enjoyable reading, I found that it also MOTIVATED me to do the very steps recommended. I am buying it for all of my adult children and will have the latest version for my grandchildren when they graduate.

Having been a financial consultant to others, I didn't follow my own advice. This book caused me to set the plan into ACTION, the missing ingredient for most of us.

If you don't have it, get it (Amazon's price is great). If you did get it, read it. If you did read it, do it. You WILL be financially secure!

Summary: Should be required reading for high school seniors
Review: This book is a great fire starter for people just entering the work force. Easy to read and understand. I have given it to a number of friends who seem to be missing the boat. Great graduation present for high school or college.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Good information, presented in an entertaining manner
Review: I was given this book by a fellow physician and am buying a copy to give to each of our graduating residents -- it is important information that is presented well!

Summary: This is a must !

Summary: The perfect financial book for young adults of any age.
Review: I have a standing offer to all my friends and acquaintences: buy the Wealthy Barber. If they read it and don't agree that it is the best entry level financial book on the market, I will personally buy the book back from them. I have never had to purchase their copy. David Chilton has made an uncomfortable topic (who wants to admit they don't know how to handle money ?) easy to understand. As he says in his preface, I can't understand why they don't teach this stuff in school. Do yourself a favor, read this book.

Summary: Wonderful advice for someone who knows nothing about money.
Review: This was a wonderful book. There were some things that I didn't need, (like how and when to write a will,) but there is good financial information on every aspect of adult life. This book will not tell you how to get rich on the stock market. This book will tell you how to get a grip on your future, and plan ahead. The author understands that the average reader doesn't have a degree in economics, so the number crunching is easily spelled out. An eighth grader can do the math he describes. The information presented is by nature, rather dry, (financial, tax and legal stuff) but Chilton presents it in the best possible way.

Summary: A straightforward path out of a very confusing mess!
Review: I was enthralled by this book; as an 18-year old and part of a "young couple", just starting out and wanting to get on in life - do the things we want, rather than, like both our parents, lacking the funds to do so - Chilton's book really made sense. Even someone (like me, often) working for minimum wage can afford to chip a little off the bi-monthly cheque to put away for the future... the amount it takes to insure my car could ensure I'm travelling the world in a few years! (well, decades I guess.) As well as provide my own children with the things they need (and maybe a few wants...), build a dreamhouse, buy some land, and live the life we want.

Chilton's simple, straightforward approach has inspired me to look in other places to increase my financial know-how and confidence, such as "Personal Finance for Dummies", and all the investing sites I can find, rather than being frightened and intimidated by them. I highly recommend this book to anyone who doesn't want to save or invest simply because they don't know how to do it.

Summary: Excellent financial planning intro for young adults
Review: This book provides the novice investor and persons just entering the job market with a well thought out, basic introduction to the power of compound interest and the importance of starting a savings program early. It does not preach nor does the author get bogged down in academic details. I would recommend it to anyone who has not had a course in financial management.

Summary: Excellent!!! Only bad thing is that I didn't write it!!!
Review: 1000 words do not permit one to praise this book adequately. So I won't attempt, but I will state the following: This book opens the personal finance door for EVERYONE. It eliminates the fear of not knowing; ... you will repeatedly state to yourself "...it's that simple?" Mr. Chilton succeeds at breaking down a perceived and complicated subject into digestable parts. I now buy this book for graduation presents, birthday presents, and wedding gifts. Those who do not heed have only theirselves to blame. Enjoy and share.
