Rating: Summary: This May Be the Steel Framing Bible Review: I was looking for a book on residential steel framing and purchased Mr. Waite's book. The book is very well written and covers all applications of residential steel framing--the How and the Why. I'm a novice DIY builder and feel that I have the confidence after reading the book to take on a moderate sized project. I'm not eloquent, but feel the book is a very good value for those interested in residential steel framing.
Rating: Summary: Great Book to Teach Old House Framers New Tricks Review: If you want to build with steel this book not only shows you how, but also gives you manhours for your estimates! I was impressed with the size and scope of the information here. From the types of tools needed for working with steel, to laying out the project, bacing, and construction of steel walls, roofs, even curved walls, and different types of insulation. It is well-written, and contains a CD-ROM for estimating -- complete with a database (one of the few I could find) of steel building materials and estimated manhours for installing the materials. All this for the low price of this book. I've framed with wood for most of my life but after I've read this book I feel that I'm ready to try steel. After all, it's termite-proof, it doesn't burn too well, and offers value. I guess as more wood-framers that read this book, the more competition I'll have.
