Summary: good practice, but not on-target...
Review: I used this as a practice tool, and it's IS good for that, but don't count on the exam problems looking much like the one in this book. These are too time-consuming compared to what's on the exam. The exam has more "blow & go" type probs. Lindberg's here are too in depth to be similar. Yes, I DID pass...

Summary: Great companion
Review: If you are studying for the PE exam this is a required companion piece to the Reference Manual in my opinion. Very helpful in getting a thorough review and it helps to get your timing down for this exam!

Summary: It is OK
Review: The real test is nothing like what is in this book. The problems are challenging and it is good idea to practice.

Summary: Not Reflective of New Exam Format
Review: This has some so-so problems, better to study and do problems from Lindberg's Reference Manual (CERM8). Lindberg had the previous test format dialed and came highly recommended, so I was surprised to find his references so off base for the current PE exam. The new multiple choice format is not reflected in this sample exam, and the real test is very different in both content and structure. On the exam, subject matter bounces around from structures to geotech to wastewater, etc. The problems on the exam do not cascade, ie- are not interelated or build on each other, like they do in this sample. Also, his morning am sample problems consists of 25% structures-no way is this reflective of the test, the actual # of structural problems in the am is around 15%. He curiously includes a very subjective cloverleaf problem and a water resources runoff method that is not covered in his text...If these subjects weren't important to cover with problems in the text, why include them in the practice exam? They don't occur on the PE. The pm portions of his sample DO however, reflect the level of knowledge demanded in each subject area. All in all, I rate it two stars because it is a poor reflection of actual format and tends to deplete confidence at a time prior to the PE examination when examinees need confidence the most.

Summary: UNWARRANTED ASSUMPTIONS
Review: While there are no doubt of his intelligence and knowledge the entire civil engineering trade, Mr Lindeburg made too many assumptions in this book that are unwarranted and not supported or justified. The solutions given did not provide any insight into his reasoning for his assupmtions of certain values used in deriving particular solutions. These problems are for reivewing only and are not reflective of the exam. If one truly believed that these problems are from the exam, he or she will end up looking for a new line of work other than civil engineering.

Mr. Lindeburg's Civil Enginering Reference Manual is a better tool in prepartion for the exam. I recommend buying that 4" thick bible over this one.
