Summary: A must for all real time traders
Review: Most all traders are trend follwoers. There is a distinct comfort factor hopping aboard an ongoing trend since the news usually suports one's attitude and other traders reeforce one's predilections. To go contrary to the trend is like betting with the casino--there is an 'edge'. Specialists and floor traders operate in this manner all the time. There a few specialists who go bust operating against the trend. This book identifies techniques that are designed to position one against the trend in the market. For us on the trading desks who use CQG, B;oomberg, and Thomson quote machines that have these indicators included, we certainly have an advnatage. An understanding of these methods is critical but once understood they become second nature because they are also intuitive and logical.

Summary: I can't understand how this got published
Review: Most technical analysis books seem to fall into two broad categories. The first is marked by a lack of rigour in thought, lack of backtesting or any form of real verification, and sparse foundations in any form of mass psychology or mathematics. The second category is the antithesis of the first.

This book falls into the more lamentable category. The author's main handicap is an immense ego, which blinds him to the ridiculous claims he makes about his methods, without any real backup. (Nevermind that his editor must have been a total pushover, since its a very poorly edited book).

Second, his methods reveal feeble methodology. Want a good example? Lets look at his chapter on moving averages. He says one fault of simple moving averages is they don't discount the far past in relation to the near past. He mentions some other ones which have been addressed elsewhere. But there aren't any formulae! He then starts talking about his enhancements to moving averages. Half of it doesn't make too much sense, and he neglects to show any graphs.

There are a couple of nuggets in here. One in particular was TD Points, as he calls them. But all the useful things he says could have been summarized into 5-10 pages. He also doesn't really talk about futures, commodities, volatilities, and strategy.

In the end, I cannot figure out why Wiley would publish this book. It doesn't have the quality.

Summary: Great Technical Analysis Overview!
Review: My "take" on this book is that it is an introduction into the author's mindset and experience being involved in the markets for many years. In his own words, in the book itself, he says it is not intended to be a turn-key methodology for trading the markets rather background and a series of ideas for the reader to research and experiment with to develop his own approach to market timing. I believe DeMark achieved this goal many times over and since I am not lazy and am not averse to testing ideas myself I feel he accomplished what he set out to achieve and more so!

Summary: This book is exceptional for traders
Review: On my trading desk we have applied the tools described in this book to record trading success. Obviously, we use the translation provided on bloomberg, cqg and thomson. This simplifies the process enornmously. Nevetheless one must read the book to become informed.

Summary: the best advanced text on technical analysis I've read
Review: The beginner market technician can benefit from these sound principles and the sophisticated trader can derive even more from this exceptional book Demark's approach to market dynamics removes the deficiencies of other books on this topic since he strives to be objective and mechanical and to remove the subjective elements associated with other books of this genre. Kudos to demark and his willingness to share his research. His other book, New Market Timing Techniques, demonstrates similar attributes and is highly recommended for serious students as well.

Summary: I received this book for Christmas and love it
Review: The senior traders on the trading desk gave me this book as a gift and it is the best present I could have ever received. The author's ideas are simply amazing. I cannot imagine how this person could have even conceived of these trading ideas. His mind is certainly fertile and creative. His contributions to the investment and trading community is unsurpassed. Our trading desk applauds his work and recommends that all serious traders read this groundbreaking accomplishment.

Summary: It really works!
Review: The surprising thing about this book is the fact that the techniques described do work. Most all similar books fail to offer anything worthwhile. I must correct my opening statement somewhat, however. What the author provides is worthwhile but by introducing a few techniques I have developed myself I was able to create some profitable approaches to trading that I use daily. In retrospect, had I not bought this book I would never have arrived at what I did but without my own research Iw would not have accomplished these feats as well.

Summary: Most ideas in teading book since Wilder's New Concepts
Review: This book contains more trading information than any other book I have seen in over 25 years. I have read them all and unfortunately learned of this one only recently. Even Mr. Wikder the author of the other book many years ago reaps praise upon this author. I recommend this book.

Summary: Exceptional book covering many trading topics
Review: This book discusses numerous topics in the trading arena. Although the detail I would like to see with computer code was lacking, I did not expect more for the cost of this book. I cetainly did get my money's woth nevertheless. I recommend this book highly.
