Rating: Summary: More would have been better! Review: I liked this book very much. Unfortunately, there was not enough of it and not enough detail to satisfy my appetite. Fortunately, I ordered from Amazon another of this author's books and am awaiting its arrival. In the meantime, I will re-read this book and each time I do I learn more and have more questions that I hope will be answerd in the next book.
Rating: Summary: Very Informative Review: I purchased this book some time ago and set it aside. Only recently have I had the time to read and review the material. I am amazed at how much new and valuable information it contains. I am impressed with the author's acute awareness of the markets. I highly recommend this book to your audience. It's a real eye opener!
Rating: Summary: creative methods for timing the markets Review: i read many reviews of this book before i bought it. the praise is well justified and some of the criticism relates to the author's attempt to pack as much punch as posible into each sentence. my observation is that most criticism is from those individuals whose first language is not english or who are unfamiliar with some of the jargon used by traders. once one overlooks these peeceived deficiencies the content far exceeds them. i had the opportunity to hear the author speak on a couple of occasions. by reading the book i was able to connect all the dots.i found the models to be original and complete. i recommend it highly for serious students of the market and want-to-be traders alike.
Rating: Summary: Read This Book Review: I read the other reviews before I wrote this. The negative reviews have one thing in common, they appear to be written by people who did not understand the book. That is understandable. It is not an easy book. It is, however, the one single book on TA that I would recommend to anyone who was seriously interested in the subject. If you don't find it worth the money, then you stopped reading it before the last page. If you don't like it after you've read it, give it to your broker for Christmas. He'll thank you. One trade costs fifty bucks. Take that fifty bucks and get this book instead of making one trade. Have a dictionary, a pencil, a ruler, and some blank paper handy, and read the book. Thomas DeMark is a genius. My credentials? I am a professional stock trader, and I am very successful.
Rating: Summary: A pleasant surprise!! Review: I read this book with my partner and his review should be forthcoming as well. I loeved the book and can't wait to re-read it hoping to absorb more trading morsels. The only negative I can express is the lack of sufficient examples. But I guess the book had to finish somewhere.
Rating: Summary: exceptional book Review: I'm a full-time trader who has been successful for years trading on the floor. The only disadvantage was that my potential was limited. Having read this book, my performance has improved immensely. The indicators described in this book are extraordinary. They're unique and each is valuable in its own right. The book is highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: the amount of information in this book astounding Review: I've purchased two copies of this book. One is my copy to highlight and make annotations. The other sits on the bookshelf. I get more fufillment out of creating variations of ideas presnted in the book. I've read it atleast 10 times and each time I uncover more information. It's amazing how much I have learned from this book alone. Additionally, it's been a catalyst inciting me to develop original ideas of my own. My goal is to write my own book and enhance upon Mr. DeMark's orignial ideas. I've never been more inspired than having read this book and applying various ideas presented by the author.
Rating: Summary: The New Science of Technical Analysis Review: If you're an experiece trader, you must read this book! If you trade based on any type of Technical Methodology, then this book should be on your book shelf. Granted, it could get complicated for novice traders, but once you've grasped the basics of Technical Analysis, don't hesitate to purchase this classic. Anyone that sees this title in the used section, grab it quick, the price is a true disparity!!
Rating: Summary: A very good book Review: In defense of the author, I don't think he intended to have this book as a turn-key buy/sell reference manual. After reading the book two times, my take was that his goal was to stimulate thinking by providing a series of insightful observations regarding markets and price behavior. As far as I am concerned, he achieved his goal and definitely met my expectations.
Rating: Summary: only if you like to tweak Review: Lo and behold, He is the great Thomas DeMark; his indicators are known across the land; look upon him and recognize greatness (In case you missed the sarcasm there, this is one arrogant dude.) There is no doubt that Mr. DeMark's resume of past employers (thoughtfully laid out for us in the intro) is quite impressive. But when he mentions getting paid "in excess of $100,000" while working for some of the biggest and best funds ever, it seems to me like bragging you were once a bat boy for the Yankees. For the likes of Paul Tudor Jones, Leon Cooperman and company, a hundred grand is a waiter's tip. But, while an almost pathological need for recognition is a running theme throughout this book and a key reason why the book was written, it doesn't take away from the content as much as it is just mildly grating. My advice is to avoid this book unless you are already a profitable trader (which means it is not advised for the vast majority). I say this because the ideas in this book are mostly "tweak" type ideas that can be used to maybe marginally improve on an already successful method, but will be of no real use to someone who isn't at the point of at least breaking even already. From that perspective, you could look at some of his observations and use them to tweak entry and exit rules somewhat and maybe improve your reward to risk ratios a little bit. If you can increase your average profitability by half a percent per month by utilizing one idea from this book, then it is well worth the price to you. But- if you are still looking for trading success in the first place, don't look here. If you don't have the basics down, the fancy stuff won't help. Trying to improve trading performance without a deeper understanding of the bottom line mechanics is kind of like working on your forearm and calf definition in the gym while your chest and legs are still scrawny and underdeveloped. Worry about the broad concepts and the basic building blocks first, and don't indulge in esoteric books like this unless you are already well along the path. If you are in that frustration stage where so many traders drift for eternity (you can almost taste success but aren't there yet), then be wary of falling into the "knowledge trap"-many traders looking to transform themselves from losers to winners end up getting bogged down in a blind alley swamp of fancy technical indicators and super complicated methods, trying to analyze their losses away instead of recognizing that part of trading is simply learning the correct way to take losses and internalizing how markets really work. Ironically, DeMark seems to display this debilitating characteristic (an egotistical mindset that results in taking losses personally or trying to analyze them away instead of seeing them as part of the game).
