Summary: GREAT for Starters and Juniors on Business Administration !!
Review: I am doing well as a Senior Software Engineer working for a multinational in Europe, but I have NO knowledge about Business Administration at all :( . I have recently started a MBA course and Daft's "Management" is the first book that we are working on, in the class. The structure of this book really helps a lot people who may be good Engineers with an analytical way of thinking, but have no idea about Management and BA. Easy-reading, with contemporary real-life examples, contains TQM, MBO and all the latest trends in Management. The Summaries and Case Studies at the end of each chapter are very handy. Starts with the simples and gradually takes you to much deeper in BA. If you alreay have a career and want to change your path to a more managerial (and less engineering) level in the market, then this is the book for you...

Summary: I like it, BUT...
Review: I am taking a college class, where this book is the required textbook. I am also a person that prefers to read things on screen than on the paper. This book came with a CD-ROM and with an InfoTrac subscription. And so I decided I would try out the CD and see what it has to offer. I was looking forward to browsing through the full text of the book, especially since I paid a lot of money for it, and well, WAS I IN FOR A HUGE SURPRISE!!! The entire CD is empty, except of a tiny (52KB) html file which redirects the user to the company webpage. WHAT A WASTE! A tiny floppy disk would have been enough, but NO it has to be a CD, since that looks better on the cover...

Anyways, I would recommend the book for anybody wanting to learn about Management the old way, on paper. If you, like me, enjoy using the new technologies, I would rather look further until I found a book that came with a CD that is actually worth the effort of putting it in the drive...

Summary: A great investment for learning about management
Review: I had the opportunity of reading the book as part of an MBA course. I found it difficult to put down. The content presented logically and discusses contemporary as well as historic theories. The writing style makes it very interesting to read.
Each concept is strengthened with business problems and solutions. There are helpful questionnaires, case study questions. They also help you understand your strengths and weaknesses. The great thing about it is that these problems are real ones. All the definitions are listed out on the margins which is great for quick reference and studying.
The CD-ROM has some useful clips and software. If you are new to management or want to brush up your managment knowledge my advice is - go for it.
Its a good book.

Summary: A strategic view of Management in a text-book
Review: I had the opportunity to use the book during lecturing professional MBA students. I found it extremelly useful not only for the easy going style and the multi-level structure of each chapter, but mainly for the strategic aspect of the approach. In few books, we can find introduction to management as free of academic sclerosis as this one. It was time, someone to focus on strategy, change and the role of HR on the whole cycle. In a rapidly changing business environment, it is nice to remember that people initiate changes and they face the consequences.
Extremely up to date with the integration of IT technology in the latest paradigms of Management. I wish the new edition to be the first to cope in more depth with the K (knowledge) - economy.
Very popular with my students. The only disadvantage, if at all, is the number of pages.-

Summary: I had to take it for a class
Review: I thought the book covered the basic very well. I took it as part of a management class and I learned things from it. I didn't enjoy it I thought it was heavily paded but it served its purpose. I would love to sell it someone for half price.
