Rating: Summary: Great for Small Business! Review: As a small business executive I read this book and found it to be a wonderful guidebook on meditation. The author does a great job in creating a step by step process to learn the basics of Meditation. I was looking for a way to release some of the stress in my life. Calm amid Chaos is most certainly a great start.
Rating: Summary: Another excellent Graybar work Review: Graybar takes a slight detour from sharing pure spiritual insights in this new book and brings us some truly brilliant pragmatic advice on how to tame stress and lead a more peaceful existence in a challenging world. At the same time though, as I read, I noted that Graybar stays true to his message of walking the path of a peaceful, compassionate contributor to the universe whether you're a CEO, grocery packer or foreign aid worker -- but without compromising who and what you are. I'd probably read 8 to 10 books in my life all with the hopes of learning to meditate. None of those really worked for me. My experience in reading and following the advice offered up in Calm amid Chaos allowed me to finally learn to meditate after several failed attempts. Somehow Graybar manages to explain a way of approaching meditation and considering how we deal with certain very unproductive behaviors (in my case, behaviors that I was completely unconscious of), that stand in the way of learning how to meditate effectively. The book took me along a no-nonsense pathway and a step-by-step method that really worked for me. I didn't just learn to meditate; I learned how to begin to calm my mind all day long so that I could learn to meditate effectively. The differnece for me was night and day compared to all of my previous attempts to learn basic meditation. Maybe I was just finally ready to change. More likely I think, this book is at least as effective as his last one in making us think about who and what we're doing and as importatnly, why. Calm amid Chaos is going to find its way into a lot of Christmas stockings on my list since literally everyone I know complains about stress and is near desperate to find at least some peace of mind. I found this book the most effective tool yet in helping me deal with those two challenges in my life.
Rating: Summary: No More Excuses! Review: If you keep meaning to start meditating but always find an excuse not to start, then meet your match! This book clearly outlines a progressive approach to meditation designed to give you results in a timely manner. The special "troubleshooting" section at the end of each chapter will take the wind out of any excuse that comes to mind, encouraging you to continue on with this rewarding practice. You will also find a summary of all the meditation exercises in the back of the book for quick and easy reference. So, pick up the book, drop the excuses and get going...peace of mind is just around the corner!
Rating: Summary: Finally a common sense approach to meditation! Review: Like another review posted here, I had tried and failed a few times to learn meditation by reading other books. None really took into account that I lead a busy, fast-paced life full of business pressure, flying off here and there, living in hotels and customers yelling for everything to be delivered yesterday. The other books on meditation that I'd read were solid works but they weren't wtitten by someone that had walked the kind of path and led the kind of life I do. This is a common sense straight from the hip great book that worked for me written by a guy that obviously knows his stuff. Terrific job.
