Summary: A good start to the emotional aspects of money management
Review: Suze's book is fantastic for helping people get down to the emotional hang-ups people have about managing their money. Her sensitive and non-judgmental approach obviously appeals to many people. However, the book only takes you so far. As a companion tool, you really need to have a good book that demonstrates the actual techniques of personal budgetting - with plenty of examples. Her treatment of retirement issues and other peripheral issues such as having a will, places the correct emphasis on these issues. The section on managing overwhelming credit card debt and how best to reduce it is pretty thorough. The book does not deliver as much as it can - or I expected - in the detail of the day to day management of your money. This may have been Suze's intent; if this is the case, Suze would do well to publish a companion workbook or incorporate a chapter/section on some essential tools. For instance, the book could really use some case examples that are very specific with a person's financial position, what the problem areas are, and how they can be corrected. I am uncertain whether this ommission was deliberate or perhaps it was not considered as important as the emotive side of money. I did enjoy the book and it complements the many other excellent books I have on personal financial management.

Summary: Superb learning tool for everyone
Review: Before I read this book, I thought I knew the basics of financial planning. I was wrong. There was so much I didn't know. I can't wait to implement all phases of the book into my financial plans. It was easy to read, easy to understand and covered every subject I could think of. It was well thought out. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to get their financial life in order. I have read other perspectives since I read this book and no book compares.

Summary: The Best book on this subject EVER!
Review: Throughout the process of reading this book, I kept telling my friends all about the tips that I was learning. They were looking forward for me to sit down with them as much as I was! This book definately covers the basics and much, much more! I first heard about this book in a seminar where they were demonstrating goal oriented software like Neurosync and this book kept coming up. I have read, read and read more books on the subject of debt and personal finance. Ms. Orman's book is one of the best that I've read over the last 3 years. I especially liked the tips on the first time investor and where to start. This book will definately open your eyes and heart to becoming a more responsible human being for your family. My family is going to be on the right path with this book as our road map.

Summary: Most overrated book I've read
Review: After seeing the author on a local TV channel, I read this book. What a disappointment. Filled with psuedo-psychological babble and not practical financial advice.

I wished I had the head the recent article in Forbes which uncovered the author's falsification of her background including the fact that she is not a financial planner at all and has far less work experience than claimed.

Be that as it may, this short book didn't help me answer my financial questions and was annoying.

Summary: A perfect book for those with "financial anxiety"
Review: This is an excellent read for the thousands of people who fear knowing more about finances and how to take care of theirs because of a lack of knowledge and know how. As a psychoanalyst, I know all to well how fears and anxities block our abilities to move forward in any arena. The author combines these issues along with her knowledge on the specific matters of personal finance in a very readable language. One would never know that she was a financial advisor; her down to earth manner minus the financial babble helps us to see how easy it is to learn as much as most people in the field. The new age stuff is minimal and therfore doesn't hurt the entire text, and some of her tips are a little over the top: such as saving money by pumping your own gas and cutting down on magazine purchases. However, just like everything else in the world you take what you can and use it to your benefit and discard what you cannot relate to. Fortunately, this book has a lot that most of us can take and use in our financial lives. I applaud the author for her ability to reach such a large audience who can benefit tremendously from her style of sharing important and worthwhile information.
