Summary: Nine steps to financial imbecility
Review: That this astonishingly bad book saw print at all is shocking enough; that so many people are taking it seriously, given the author's stark lack of credentials, is even worse. Orman does not talk with any authority about taxes; her discussions of real estate and retirement plans are flimsy at best; and her actual advice consists of the sort of homilies that one finds pre-printed on checks. There is also the rather ugly message, never explicitly stated, that the reason most people are poor is because it's their own damn fault. This isn't to say that there are people who find it easier to shirk rather than work, but Orman's message is an insult to the many people who remain mired down below the poverty line. Readers are encouraged to see the film "Roger and Me", in which the same kind of feel-good empowerment nonsense goes down like a lead balloon to the citizens of Flint, Michigan.

Good financial planning consists of three things: making a budget and sticking to it; creating a savings plan and maintaining it; being mindful of both. This does not require any hand-waving or invoking of the "spirit", just some common sense and a few kernels of thought -- increasingly rare commodities in this fatally feeling-obsessed times.

Summary: A worthwhile book for everyone
Review: After reading this book, I have a much better understanding about money. I had a lot of questions answered and it gives me hope and belief that no matter how much you make, you can reach your realistic goal by saving, investing and it gives you the knowledge of how to protect your money. If I had read this book since I turned 25, I would have been in a much better shape financially, but it's never too late for anyone!

Summary: Is it possible to have negative stars?
Review: Ms Orman's premise is that we don't know how to handle money because we're afraid of it. If that description applies to you, you might get something from the book. I found the combination of psycho-babble over-powering any financial advice. Not recommended (by me anyway) for someone who wants to learn about money management.

Summary: Beyond investment how-to's to TRUE financial abundance!
Review: As an investment consultant, this is the only financial book I endorse whole-heartedly to my clients. Suze Orman addresses head-on the things most financial gurus miss: financial fear and instability. This is a must-read for every adult!

Summary: Overall book providing the necessary basics
Review: I am a business teacher and ex accountant. I feel this book is excellent. Its not another book on how to get rich-but a necessary outline of all the basic areas which need to be addressed. Personal finance is basic-she takes the mystery out of getting control. An Easy to follow guide. She got me to quit procastinating because I knew exactly what to do after reading her book. I also started making my money work for me. I would say Suze's book is invaluable for men and women.

Summary: THIS BOOK WILL SET YOU FREE!
Review: I can not say enough good things about this book! Like lots of other people, I have suffered the effects of debt and the fear of never having "enough"- You will learn all you will ever need to know to form a relationship with money that will bring you more riches than you ever thought possible. I am so grateful that with Suze Orman's incredibly sharp insights into our relationship with money and her extensive knowledge of how to make money work for you, I am now FREE to get on with my life and fulfill my purpose here on earth. I couldn't have done this without following The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom.

Summary: Underwhelming
Review: Filled with platitudes and simplistic advice, I felt that I could have written a better financial advice book! There's little logic to the author's recommendations and there was superficial coverage of many important topics that I've read about elsewhere such as taxes, home buying, insurance and investing strategies. Very disappointing.

Summary: Essential reading for taking control of your own future
Review: Suze Orman has written a book for anyone who is committed to taking control of his or her own financial future. I'm recommending this book to everyone I know, particularly women, since many females grew up without any expectation of having to take care of finances. The book is really a metaphor for life--if you control your finances, you control your life! From the first exercise, in which you can experience your first childhood memory of money, to the subsequent chapters which get into the nuts and bolts of money management, Orman empowers the reader to take responsibility. Her tone isn't chiding or patronizing: if anything, she learned from her days as a financial advisor that the client is usually the best judge of where and how to invest his or her own money. Rather, the author provides some practical know-how to give the reader not only information but confidence. The key is that Orman has compassion for her reader, and the knowledge she gained as a broker is given generously to those who read the book. Those who take the content and use it in their own lives will indeed gain financial freedom.
