Rating: Summary: Requires introspection Review: Suze Orman made me contemplate my own money psyche. I didn't even know that I had one before I started reading the book! However, I was hoping for more nuts and bolts on personal finance. Happily, I recently stumbled across a sleeper that provided just that. The name of the book is "The Unofficial Guide to Investing," which was released this year. It's a fun read and very informative.
Rating: Summary: The book is practical and spiritual Review: At the begin of the book it amazes me how Suze Orman used people past problem to sort out our financial problems.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT BEGINNING GUIDE Review: The ideal book on money if you're not certain what to do. It will get you up and running, feeling that you can take charge of your financial life. It can and will change your life. Then you should read one of the more concrete and practical books on what to do with your money. I recommend "The Dun & Bradstreet Guide to Your Investments." It tells you exactly what to do with your savings, retirement accounts, brokerage account, mutual funds; and it is written for men as well as women. It, too, is a winner.
Rating: Summary: Suzie Orman should be drawing welfare checks.... Review: I just cannot believe that people have been encouraging this jezebel of the financial world to spout her baseless jargon to the public. Her ideas for personal success make about as much sense as playing leap frog on a picket fence. Don't waste your time or money--that's the first step to financial freedom.
Rating: Summary: One way to waste your money Review: Face my fears? Be honest? Be responsible? Please! I wanted info on investments, not the girl scout code. Already got the badge.
Rating: Summary: CLUTTER Review: A much better book on the subject of money is Robert Koppel's very thoughtful Money Talks:Candid Conversations About Wealth In America.
Rating: Summary: Tips for the Simple Minded(AKA: 9 steps to waste your time) Review: What a waste of money and my time to read such an over-rated piece of trash. Do yourself a favor and buy todays paper and read the financial section, you'll learn more about smart money management there.
Rating: Summary: Wretched Review: Simply awful. Suze Orman is all sizzle, no steak. Don't buy the book, invest your savings and you will be better off.
Rating: Summary: LOSE YOUR "STALLS" TO FINANCIAL FREEDOM! Review: Even the sophisticated investor can learn a lot from this book. I thought that I had few hang-ups about money, but the questions Ms. Orman asks elicit some very early memories and feelings that help us understand why we do what we do today. Many of my habilts were formed by putting $1 each week into the local Savings Bank program in our elementary school! Some of our habits and good, some are bad. I found that the bad habits that hold us back are also simple to understand. THE 2,000 PERCENT SOLUTION, by Donald Mitchell, Carol Coles and Robert Metz calls these bad habits "stalls". The Tradition Stall, like my savings bank stall, taught me that I must question the way I normally do things. Today, there are better ways. The Procrastination Stall, such as putting off buying more insurance when I really think I should, comes back to my Tradition Stall of not wanting to spend money. And finally, many of us think it is so complicated to manage our finances that we don't believe we can do it - We have been zapped by the The Disbelief Stall. Ms. Orman shows us, chapter by chapter, that we can. There were some great ideas in the sections on insurance, with Web sites for comparison shopping, that I usually trust my agent to do. (Zapped again by The Misconception Stall). With these tips, it is easy to do it yourself and save money. The last section hit home for me. My friend always says "We are very fortunate. We have no problems that money can't solve". Ms Orman shows that riches are more than money. Regardless of your financial situation, THE 9 STEPS TO FINANCIAL FREEDOM is a heartwarming book that happens to be full of great financial ideas. If you are serious about improving your situation, you must also read THE 2,000 PERCENT SOLUTION to make you aware of your other bad habits, or "stalls" and learn how to put them behind you to achieve 20 times what you thought you could.
