Summary: A must have for every homeschooler!
Review: This is a great book. I am in our third year of homeschooling. I used it to review what we learned last year and will refer to it often to make sure we are covering all. I especially love the internet links. I would recommend that all beginning homeschooling and even those who are 'experienced' get this book and use it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great starting point
Review: This year we purchased a pre packaged curriculum and although its nice to have all the work done for you as a parent/teacher I find myself refering to this book often and finding interesting things for my kids and not having enough time for it all. I'm using this book as a jumping off point for my son's high school credits next year. I thought I was going to use a corraspondance school but knowing that I can pick and choose what's right for us is better. So I'll use this book for quite some time since I have one entering high school and one entering pre school and this book will be ragged by then- maybe the will update it before too long.
A good book for anyone homeschooling!

Summary: A Must Have
Review: We've homeschooled for 13 years. I co-founded a homeschool group and buy for the group's library. I purchase many books every month and read even more than I buy. If I had to chose what two books I wouldn't be without, my choice would be two authored by Rebecca Rupp, this book and The Complete Home Learning Source Book.
In our homeschool group the comment I hear most from other parents about homeschooling is "I'm just not sure we're on track". Home Learning Year by Year provides the information parents need to guage if they are covering what their child needs to learn. I'm a believer in letting the child's abilities set the pace but by using Rebecca Rupp's book, I have now made a checklist of what I want my children to cover and I have confidence that we're on track.
If you don't homeschool your child, you'll still want this book. As a former special education teacher, I remember parent meetings where parents were lost about whether their child was being taught what he/she needed to learn. Home Learning Year by Year can guide parents in taking charge and making good choices for their child's education regardless of whether that education takes place in the home or in a classroom setting.
The book gives the most complete listing of education goals grade by grade I've seen in any book. Ms Rupp suggests resources for each grade and its apparent to me that her suggestions and her goals have been carefully researched.

Summary: Great for all parents.
Review: Whether you home school or not this book will help you identify what your child should be learning and how you can help.

This book gives you general guidelines of what is taught and more importantly the skills they should have, for example by the end of kindergarten they should be able to recognize and repeat simple patterns and they should be able to throw, catch and kick a ball; by the end of 1st grade they should be able to listen to, repeat and follow two step directions and they should be able to throw and catch a beanbag.

This book is well-written, it is easy to find what your looking for and assess if your on track.
