Rating: Summary: A must have for civil procedure! Review: "Civil Procedure: Examples and Explanation by Joseph W. Glannon is the BEST legal study aide that I have come across! I had heard about this book from my boyfriend who had taken civil procedure the year before I did. He swore by it and was absolutely right - it got me through civil procedure. I read it before the exam and after perusing its pages a subject that had previously been a mystery became clear. I also purchased another civil procedure study guide that paled in comparison to this one and proved utterly useless - this book is all you need to learn civil procedure. I can say, without reservation, that anyone who is taking civil procedure and doesn't buy this book is doing themselves a disservice!
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Study Guides Written for ANY Subject Review: As someone who bought and used a great many hornbooks and commercial outlines (some good and some just awful) during my law school career, I can say, without reservation, that Professor Glannon's Civil Procedure: Examples and Explanations is one of the two best study aides I used in ANY subject (the other being Emmanuels for Constitutional Law). Professor Glannon has written a profoundly clear, easy to understand, and at times, even humorous book that takes most of the mystery out of this difficult subject. The only thing I would say to people who have bought this book or are thinking about buying it is this - buy it - and use it right away. Don't wait until the end of the semester to cram it all in. Read the chapters in this book as you cover the subjects in class - and be sure to do all of the examples and read all of the explanations. This is one of the true gems available to help law students - and if you read it in conjunction with your coursework in this subject, you will be amazed at how much of your confusion it resolves for you. Don't miss this one folks!Robert H. Miller Author of "Law School Confidential: the Complete Guide to the Law School Experience By Students for Students"
Rating: Summary: Glannon's Civil Procedure is the one "must" for every 1L Review: As you begin your first year of law school, many things may seem overwhelming including the sheer number of supplemental materials available. Civil Procedure will be your toughest class. But Glannon's book will break down every aspect you will cover by giving you an overview of the concept and then reenforcing those concepts with examples that get increasingly complex. The explanations of the examples are quite thorough. If you actually DO the examples and then check them, you will be on your way to getting a firm grasp on even the hardest topics like "Eerie problems." Don't wait until second semester to get this. (If your graded on a curve, don't tell your friends!)
Rating: Summary: Great like all other 1L E & Es Review: Buy this and High Court summaries keyed to your casebook and you're set. I also used the Gilberts and Sum and Substance 1L tapes while commuting to school--the best preparation with the least effort. AWESOME!
Rating: Summary: Indispensable guide to Civ Pro Review: By all means get a copy of this. It helps simplify Civil Procedure and gives workable examples and problems to sharpen your Civ Pro skills. It gives a 1L a definite lead in understanding the Civ Pro arena. In most law schools Civ Pro is taught as a terribly abstract concept. Glannon's helps to put it into both context and practice. In my opinion it was one of two or three of the best law school study guides I ever invested in. Gilbert's Dukeminier's Property Law Study Guide is probably the only equal to Glannon's Civ Pro.
Rating: Summary: ESSENTIAL Review: Civil Procedure is infamous for being the most difficult and unfamiliar subject matter for a first year law student. Thanks to this book, it was the easiest subject for me to understand my first semester. I highly recommend this book to first-year law students who hope to do well in Civil Procedure.
Rating: Summary: One of the best study guides; an absolute MUST for 1L's! Review: For those law students who are having difficulty comprehending the abstract world of Civil Procedure, this book is incredibly helpful. Glannon has a very simple way of explaining concepts in just a few sentences. After reading Glannon's study guide, I was able to follow what the professor was trying to explain in class. Suddenly, it seemed so very easy to understand! There is also one other element which is the reason that I highly recommend this book over any other Civil Procedure Outline: at the end of each section, there are questions FOLLOWED BY EXPLANATIONS! This important "anti-socratic method" feature allows you to find out if you really understood what you just read. Amazing!
Rating: Summary: An outstanding secondary source Review: Glannon's book is an excellent and highly readable companion to Civil Procedure. The examples are well-conceived and very helpful. The course has a steep learning curve, particularly as you wade through the various types of jurisdiction. If there's a class for which you need an outside source, it's probably Civil Procedure, and the source should be Glannon.
Rating: Summary: If you want an "A " in Civ Pro, GET THIS BOOK Review: Glannon's book on civ pro is truly amazing. He gives examples for virtually every scenario imaginable on every subject. Every time I was confused on a particular subject, all I had to do was go to the corresponding chapter and look at the summary and examples. He make everything so easy, clear, and concise. By the time I took my Civ Pro exam I was able to answer every Glannon question in the book, and I was able to get an A on the test. Much of my sucess in the class I owe to Glannon. GET THIS BOOK!...
Rating: Summary: Drowning in Civil Procedure....here is a raft. Review: Glannon's Civil Procedure made one of the most complicated first year law courses comprehensible. I owe my grade and evaluations for Civ Pro to Glannon. This is a great book and I recommend it, one law student to another, to any 1L.
