Rating: Summary: What a pleasant surprise!! Review: A fellow trader on our institutional desk recommended this book. Initially, I was dubious regarding this book's application to my work since I do not deal in options, rather I spend all my time on stocks and index futures. I spent minimal time on the sections in the book devoted to options and all my time on the trading indicators and their application to my trading. I have already made more money my 1st week applying these tools that far exceed the prior entire month's returns. I am usually skeptical, as are most traders, regarding the value of work found in the public doamin but in this case I can honestly say I mined gold--real gold!
Rating: Summary: One of a Kind--More practical approaches than Imaginable! Review: I head up a large trading desk. I know first hand that trading is a full time job and is not as easy as buy/sell. Althouygh the decision to buy or sell is simplistic unless one follows a defined plan and is disciplined, the efforts are doomed. This is the first book that I have read that clearly describes the daily battle between buyers and sellers and attempts to predict the outcome. The earlier DeMark books were good but unless one were an experienced trader the brilliance in the books was not detected. This book is directed to the non-proffessional audience as well and I believe it truly fulfills the void that exists within this arena. My suggestion is to read this book and then proceed to DeMark's other two. The foundation and trading processes learned in this one are good lead-ins to the other books. Highly recommended to professionals who want to understand how markets operate.
Rating: Summary: Amazing how well methods work--BUT not for options!!! Review: I purchased this book because a trader recommended it to me. I am not an options trader. I was pleasantly suprised to find that the techniques described in the book apply to both stocks and commodities and not just options. They are not perfect but they seem to work much better than all other methods I have studied in the past. This book is worthwhile and I recommend it to any trader of any market.
Rating: Summary: The tiltle does not match the contents! Review: I have read this book 3 times. My assessment is that it should be a part of everybody's trading library. However the fact that the title implies that this book is an options day trading book is not totally correct. The information supplied applies equally well to longer term trading and applies equally well to markets other options. To criticize the author/publisher for an inecorrect description of the book is to diminish the value of the contents. The information is valuable whereas the title of the book is incomplete.
Rating: Summary: Good book, but... Review: ...very technical. Written for experienced option traders only. Before diving into this book, make sure you have a solid foundation in trading options. We've been trading options (with varying degrees of success) for about a year and my husband and I are both stuck about 1/2 way through this book. We're constantly having to refer to other books to try to understand what the DeMark's are talking about and I don't see how the information ties together. Hopefully, we'll eventually get to that point, but for now this book isn't doing much more than collecting dust on the shelf. A friend of ours (who has more experience than we do in trading) swears by it. He gave us the names of a few other books that he recommends we buy & read before diving back into this book.
Rating: Summary: This book is a complete handbook Review: I have studied many techniques. Most of them are aggressively promoted and widely used. I hoped to find new ideas and this book is the only one I can recommend with a new perspective on trading. It is not the traditional trend follwing moving average and trendline breakout approaches used by everyone. rather it anticipates tops and bottoms. It's not perfect but it sure is better than what others espouse. Once I have learned these methods I will never go back.
Rating: Summary: Highly recommended for serious traders Review: I was somewhat familiar with the markets but my familiarity proved sufficient to make me vulnerable to my emotions. I was unable to overcome the emotional buying and selling devastating to many traders. I sought out books on psychology and found a few good ones. But that alone was not able to put me on the track to trading success. I needed techniques that would enable me to sell market strength and buy market weakness. This book supplies a vast number of such methods and my real time application of them have proven profitable. I strongly recommend this book to those who want to learn trading.
Rating: Summary: Worthless Review: The author has written a mostly useless book trying to capitalize on day-trading. Period. If the fad were making sweaters, the book would be about making sweaters. Difficult to read, nothing is backtested. Everything seems about as reliable as existing indicators, IF THAT. And notice that the positive reviews always come in bunches separated by only a day, and from "a reader in chicago." That's one contrarian indicator I can definitely rely on.
Rating: Summary: Very good book but could have been a great one! Review: My assessment of this book is favorable, however had the authors made it more into a workbook type of presentation it would have been more instructive and valuable. I suppose I expect to much and require spoon feeding but trading is a difficult profession and I)we) need all the help we can get. Nevertheless this book is easier to digest than the author's previous book.
Rating: Summary: Good basic option book and great systems book. Review: The first half of the book is more a tutorial on option trading but I believe such instruction is a necessity. The other portion of the book is devoted to techniques and I enjoyed that the most. Now if only the author had included results as to what techniques were the best I would have been really satisfied. Nevertheless it is a book I recommend heartily for all traders.
