Rating: Summary: The best of its type! Review: I have been a technical writer/editor for more than 20 years, and have yet to find a more comprehensive dictionary of this type. For the engineer or the technical writer or editor, this publication is really the best. One might consider it to be too general, but with almost 2,200 pages, 105,000 terms, 122,000 definitions, and 15 appendices ranging from the Periodic Table of the Elements to schematic electronic symbols to the classification of living organisms, it is useful in many scientific fields. In addition, it is visually appealing and easy to read, with liberal inclusion of illustrations in the outside margins of almost every page. You won't be sorry you bought it, and you might even be able to eliminate several other scientific dictionaries occupying precious room on your shelves (this edition is approximately three inches thick).

Rating: Summary: FAMOUS FOR ITS BROAD-SPECTRUM COVERAGE Review: The "McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms" is famous for its broad-spectrum coverage. Its soul is general science; and its audience is anybody who has any business with any science: biological, chemical, or physical. Whether you are a student, a teacher, or even a consultant, this unabridged lexicon lets you discover scientific terms, methods and applications in a very simple way. It is overflowing with references and definitions. And, for the mobile professional, who may find it heavy to lug around, it is available on CD-ROM. The prices of both the text and its CD version are not out-of-reach. Either of the two is dependable.

Rating: Summary: McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms 6th Review: The dictionary, as I expected, is excellent. I can easily and directly grasp the clear concept of meanings without imaging in my mother tongue, Japanese. Each explanation with the technical field is very concise and accurate. I believe that the dictionary helps me to perfectly understand the target words, for translating from English to Japanese, equivalent to those of an educated English speaker. Then, this will automatically make my task much easier. Hopefully, I will also be able to obtain CD-ROM, which can be installed in my computer, Windows ME/MS-Word, for accelerating my job.
Rating: Summary: Very helpful Review: The more I use this dictionary, the more I come to like it. It's handy to have a specific dictionary for scientific and technical terms, and I feel more complete with this by my side. The coverage is comprehensive, the layout is clean and easy to read, and the added illustrations are a nice touch.I would also recommend the McGraw-Hill Concise Encyclopedia of Science & Technology as a nice supplement.
Rating: Summary: The most comprehensive collection of scientific terminology. Review: This book is a must for technical libraries. It's also a great asset to scientists and engineers who must sometimes cross outside their particular fields of expertise to get the job done
