Rating: Summary: This is the Bible to the StockMarket. Review: The idea is to get the most bang for the buck within the least amount of time and reading. And this is that book. All today's professionals or guru's talk in terms of the 4 Stages - Toni Turner, David Nassar, Oliver Velez, Tony Oz. You must keep in mind that this book was copyrighted in 1988 - so it may look old - but it's still a gem. I hoped I dropped a few names to add to you list - and you can take a hint.
Rating: Summary: A very effective methodology to trading or investing Review: This book has completely changed by perspective on trading or investing (there's a difference). With either one, I believe you will find this book VERY helpful and practical (recognizing breakouts, when to buy, when to sell, cycles of a stock's life, market timing, shorting stocks, establishing safeguards, various order types, etc.). The book has a heavy emphasis on analyzing charts. This is a major plus, but it's very practical, not numbingly theoretical. Weinstein is often compared to O'Neil in (momentum) investment style, but I find Weinstein's book much more systematic and well organized than anything I've read by O'Neil. I own 8 books about investing. This is the best, and the only one I go back to continually. Bottom line: my portfolio has grown 30% in two months using his methodology, and it's kept me from making a LOT of bad decisions. Don't let the date influence you. Start reading, and you will think he published it this year.
Rating: Summary: Great read, and a must have book! Review: This book is a must have for any investor, whether you're just beginning, or can't seem to find the direction to profits in the market, this book will help you! Stan spells out why most investors lose in the market, and how easy it is to make money if you leave out the emotions, and follow his investing techniques and guidelines. His strategies will keep you out of the losers and help you become a confident investor. This book receives my highest recommendation, and is the best investing book I have read to date!
Rating: Summary: very easy reading - great book Review: this book is really great, during the late 99 and early 00' you could have made mega buck using his trading ideas , now in 2002 - in a very different type of market it is much harder to trade - even to short! so don't buy this for a get rich quick kind of thing. The fact that he has tests/quizes after every chapter - makes this book much better than the rest. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: A Very Helpful Investment Text Review: This book provides an amazingly clear exposition of technical analysis. The techniques explained are not esoteric computational gyrations that border on the occult as found in many technical analysis books. Rather, Stan focuses on fundamental mathematical principles to teach investors how to spot trends in the market as well as in individual stocks. Simply, put his writings just make sense. As someone fairly new to and skeptical about technical analysis, I highly recommend this book to all individual investors.
Rating: Summary: Weinstein's strategies simplify technical chart reading Review: This book provides the best mix of advice and technical signals from successful chart reading to buy and sell stocks. The beauty of the system described in chapters 2-6 is that any chart or sector can be evaluated for buy or sell, eliminating the need to understand the company fundamentals. Many people from the LTBH era will relate to Weinstein's strategies because it's true -- thorough analysis of a company's financial, fundamental or management performance is not necessary if buying at a sound entry price and selling by automatic stops on changing technical signals is acceptable to the reader. Bottom line -- the techniques and examples taught in just those chapters 2-6 are sufficient to remove emotion and "over-thinking" from stock transactions. This should be the goal of objective traders and investors -- get the emotion out of your system, and it is well-achieved from Weinstein's techniques.
Rating: Summary: Why Two Stars Review: This book talks about Volume, Moving Average and Relative Strenght Index. No mention of then most important Stochastic Oscillatore (K%D), Bollinger Bands, Moving Anerage Convergence/Divergence (MACD), Channels ....etc. Then talks about Head ans Shoulder, No mention about the rest like Triple/double tops/bottoms, saucers and spikes, Triangles, Rectangle formation ....etc. No menthion of Eliot Wave Theory , Japanese candlesticks, P&F and the list goes on. If you start trading with what is in this book alone. Then you will discover the secrets for loosing in bull and bear markets.
Rating: Summary: informative description of his system, but nothing original. Review: This book would be very helpful to someone getting started out trying to figure out trading/investing. I did not give it 5 stars because I have read so many books and this book does not give any novel new insights. However if you want to shortcut having read many books, this book would be great for the beginner. It will give you trading tactics(buying, selling, money management), an intro on technical analysis, and some explanation of what effects the markets. This book has lots of information in a effectively written manner all compiled in an organized way. If you are a beginner, this is a good place to start. If you have read tons of investment books already, I would guess that you have seen everything this book has to offer already.
Rating: Summary: Exceptional reading for all traders! Review: This is a giveaway for such a low price. It will save you thousands of dollars in costly mistakes if you know this material. Realize you must study if you want to have any chance to succeed in the market. Otherwise you will be eaten alive! Read also "How charts can help you in the stock market', by William Jiller, for chart analysis, and "Winning on Wall Street", by martin Zweig's for market conditions. You will be on your way to big bucks in trading very fast!
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK; POOR RESULTS Review: This is a great book and explains a lot of potentially profitable concepts exceptionally well with clarity and insight. Much of the commentary and chart results would have you believe that Stan the Man has provided himself and his clients with exceptional returns. The Huge contradiction is that the "professional Tape Reader" service has returned a mere 8.34% average total net return in last 10 years (Source Business Week March 9 1998) Clearly Stan is not an exceptional trader or am I missing something big time here. I fully appreciate that Profitable trading techniques are only potentials, and require the input of appropriate trading psychology, but I would expect a lot more from a pro least of all Trading Author, especially when you consider the nature and content of the prose. Maybe I am living in a fairy tale World. In any case, there are some real gems to be appreciated in this text. Just ignore the results. This guy also does not seem to be very active at the moment.
