Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: The standard MBA textbook. Review: BM illustrates several key concepts very well, but not all. In courses it needs complementary readings or lecture notes to make up for its weaknesses. Sure it's neither beginner nor PhD level, it's a solid book that explains the standard concepts in a non-controversial way.If you want a textbook there is, however, still none better.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The absolute best introduction to finance!! Review: I have taught finance from other texts (i.e. Ross et al, Brigham, etc.,..), and I know that B&M is by far the best intro to finance. Keep this book nearby for reference when and if you get to the advanced texts like Huang & Litzenberger and/or the Duffie collection in a good graduate school.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A moderately comprehensive guide for Students and Pros Review: While not the most comprehensive volume on Corporate Finance, it nevertheless provides its readers with enough useful information to guide them through the intricate labyrinth of corporate finance. This book serves as a Finance 101 class for MBA students and as a refresher course for professionals.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: .... still a very lacking book. Review: To extend my earlier review, I should perhaps add that this book is geared mainly towards the MBA crowd, for it completely avoids the use of mathematics, and its explanations are non-rigourous, and thus woefully inadequate. Perhaps this is acceptable for MBA-type courses, but certainly not for the serious student of finance. One reviewer has remarked that this book is on CORPORATE FINANCE, not finance as whole. However, without a proper and sound understanding of CAPM and option-pricing models, both of which are not exclusive subsets of corporate finance, but are instead part of the 'capital markets' side of finance, how can one expect to fully understand the implications of 'corporate finance'? Utter rubbish! The point is, Brealey and Myers seem to be contented with educating students with the barest minimum - this is worrying for the global financial system. If, as some other reviewers have implied, understanding this book thoroughly means possessing the ability to top a finance class, then Cambridge will certainly have a problem in that too many high As will be awarded! The truth is, there is so much to the theory of Finance that this book covers only very superficially. If you think you know all about finance (and feel good about it) after reading/studying this book, then you're in for a huge surprise - much more depth to all the results contained in B&M await you! In sum, this book is far too easy for engineers, mathematicians and economists to be bothered with. Imagine, here in England most SECOND YEAR UNDERGRADUATES find the book a complete waste of time! Reading and completely understanding this book from cover-to-cover and walking into an exam would only score you a very very low C!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The best Corporate Finance Book available in the market Review: I used this book when I was studyinf Finance at Illinois and I can tell you is one of the best and easiest to understand Corporate Finance books available
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Excellent, not for beginners though Review: This is an excellent CORPORATE FINANCE (and not "finance in general" as some of the one-star readers might judge). It's not for beginners, though: if MBA students have diffiuculties with it, it's because they don't have a basis in finace. A good finance junior tudents will find this book very formative and insghtful, a reference book. Soemtimes it is a bit too prolix, though, and the price is too high.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: lushly luminous! Review: How can some people compare Brealey's book to Weston's? I've read both as an undergraduate. If you have noticed, these are Principles of Corporate Finance not the Endings! So if you are serious about finance you should complement this book with some other specialized books on certain topics during your MBA or MSc. Mr. Brealey and Mr. Myers have done a superb job explaining Corporate Finance to the acute and perceptive mind lefting only rare issues a little bit underexplained (you have to! considering the practical extension of a book!). Low stars: Completely and awfully unjustified! Shame on you!
