Summary: Before buying this one, consider buying Ham's Histology
Review: Although this book is very cheap and easy to use, the information in it is very poor. Once you read Ham's Histology by Cormack, you'll get what I mean.

Summary: Definitely NOT an Intro Text
Review: Basic Histology is definitely not the text of choice if you're new to the subject. The authors managed to introduce no less than 30 new terms in the first page of each chapter rendering the reader in complete confusion. They seemed not to have taken great care in explaining the various structures, which would be completely foreign to the beginning Histology student, and the figures included have much room for improvement as well. Further, there was no distinction of emphasis between the more important points in a chapter versus the less crucial details. I have read lots of intro texts to various subjects for academic purposes; and this is definitely the most lacking one I have encountered.

Summary: An exceptional book
Review: Basic Histology is now on its 10th edition, possibly a unique feat in textbooks on Histology, making it a classic in its field. Over the years its receptivity has spread beyond the USA. It has been translated into 16 languages, and is being used by medical students of many countries. The present edition, revised and updated, maintains the same winning features that have insured its success for 35 years: highlight on morpho-functional interaction; utilization of tridimensional illustrations; and the didactic pointing out of Histology's ties with Biochemestry, Pathology and medical practice. The very effective combination of limpid, authoritative text with strikingly detailed, clear micrographs and drawings justify the leading position of Basic Histology as the preferred textbook of Histology in the USA and abroad. (Aprígio Mendes Filho, Full Professor of Histology, Medical School, Federal University of Ceará)

Review: I am from Brazil and that's the book that we used at our school for histology.
We kind of liked it a lot since it was very easy to read and straightforward with its explanations so you would understand it easily, plus it covered everything that you needed to know for a histology class, for 1st year medical students.
Yours truly,
Thereza M.P.S.Melo.

Summary: Not the text to use for intro Histology
Review: I bought this book because it was on the textbook list for my histology course in med school but was extremely disappointed with it's content. Having had histology as an undergrad in university, I really didn't feel this book makes it easy for the beginner to learn histology (especially since the photomicrographs are not in colour). Many of my classmates used Ross et al. "A Text and Atlas of Histology." Basic Histology may be good for a reference text, but not an intro Histo textbook. I could not in good conscience recommend this text for first year med students or for someone just taking histo for the first time.

Summary: This book is very didatic
Review: this book is good for all kinds of biological students. The book contains all the systems of the human body in a very simplified way so anyone can understand it. For those students who are beggining their courses, this book is the best. I am a junior medical student and I have studied on this book and it was very interesting for me.
