Rating: Summary: A Great Medical Terminology Text Gets Even Better! Review: In the sixth revision of The Language of Medicine Davi-Ellen Chabner updates an already comprehensive medical terminology book. Even the colors are high energy! From the cover colors to those used in photos and diagrams, it is a pleasure to review. From a learner's perspective, TLOM has it all. Chabner wants the learner to understand medical terminology not just learn it by rote memorization. In-text exercises with answers are offered as well as a CD which offers questions, answers, photos, video clips, pronunciation of terms and more. The welcome Instructor's Manual has been updated and expanded for educators. There is even a Web site which benefits both students and instructors with loads of material and the opportunity to have two-way communication. Medical terminology touches the lives of all of us. In the pursuit of life-long learning, The Language of Medicine would be beneficial for everyone's reference collection.Note to Editors: I had previously written a review for the fifth edition of The Language of Medicine. The above is written specifically for the sixth edition. Could you substitute it, please? Thanks!

Rating: Summary: Great Way to Learn Medical Terminology Review: This book by Chabner is designed to help the premedical professional learn terminology by teaching how to break words apart and decode their meaning. Each chapter has a review of a specific topic and provides many opportunities, at the end of each chapter, to practice and review the material covered. The CD is the best part because it helps break up some of the monotony of learning the numerous prefixes, suffixes and word roots. The end of the book provides appendices for medical abbreviations, formulas and measurement. I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs to learn medical terminology.
