Rating: Summary: Great Advice Review: As a commodity speculator I found Mr Fishers approach to trading very informative and I find his stories to be great. I think that the acd system will work and I look forward to using it in the near future. There is something for everybody in this book and I feel that the main focus of this book is about discipline and assesings ones risk which at the end of the day is what trading is all about. Both the stories and the system do this. I absolutely recomend this book to anybody interested in or already trading.
Rating: Summary: Missing essential info Review: At first glance it seems like a great book. The author early on tells you the ACD methodology is the basis of the system. The A and C values determine the trade entries in relation to the opening range and the pivot range. The B and d values determine your stop. It all seems so nice. Guess What? The calculation of the A and C numbers is proprietary and changes with the market's daily movements. You can get these if you subscribe to the author's research material for a fee. The values for December 2001 are given in the appendix, but don't reflect today's numbers. If you use those values you will lose your money. The book is expensive, so you would expect to be given a method to at least ascertain rudimentary values. It would be an awesome book otherwise. I guess if you want to subscribe to the service all will be well.

Rating: Summary: ACD - A Crappy Deal Review: I agree totally with the previous review. What kind of book on systems has "secret" variables that are only available by subscribing to a service. I found myself lost (or re-reading the previous pages as if I missed something) when the author introduces the "secret A" variable within the first few pages, which is a key point to the system, but won't disclose any of the "secret" methods to derive this variable. What a joke...So much for the authors "messianic willings" to share his system with the public for $60, as Paul Jones claims on the back of the book. Basically, for $60 you get a puff piece making you ask "where's the beef". If you care to waste your time, I suggest you read some of the junk you probably already receive in the mail regarding "secret" systems rather than spending $60 on this promotional piece of work.

Rating: Summary: A gem of a book from a market master Review: I am a market professional and as such have read 100s of books on investing and dozens of books on systems & systems design. This is an excellent book. One of the other reviewer's pointed out that as the biggest energy trader on NYMEX and as someone who built a very successful clearing firm, Mark Fisher is a "Michael Jordon" of his field. His bona fides cannot be questioned. The fact that Paul Tudor Jones' recommends this book to his traders as a must read (as PTJ points out in the foreword) should also be noted. Mark Fisher describes in great detail his approach to trading - the ACD System. This is a very robust system that works across markets and time frames. It has also held up well for > 20 yrs. As Fisher points out in the book most of his traders adapt the ACD approach to their own styles. This is something I have done as well. I have tested this methodology and it unquestionably has merit. The main question one should ask is - does one have the discipline to follow the system without hesitation? Discipline (or execution or psychology - whatever one calls it) is a huge determinant of investment returns. Some people cannot make $ even if they are presented with a high expectancy system because they are constantly second guessing the signals. The importance of discipline is magnified when one is dealing with an intra day system. Bottom line, this is an excellent book from a market master whose methods have been proven across many markets by 100s of people over decades. If you have the discipline to follow a pretty active system (mutiple times per week) w/o hesitation and stick with it through drawdowns then you can profitably use the ACD system.

Rating: Summary: Where's the meat??? Review: I truly believe that Mark Fisher is a great trader and his ACD trading system is one of the best. Who am I to stand opposite to Paul Tudor Jones who wrote in the Foreword that besides the four Bibles of the business (Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by Lefevre, Technical Analysis of Stock Trends by McGee and Edwards, The Elliot Wave Theorist by Prechter and Market Wizards by Schwager), he was going to add this book to his list of must reads for the beginning trader. The critical drawback is, unless you subscribe with a fee to the author's research material or become his client (MBF is the largest clearing firm in the Nymex), you dont know what those time, trading period and vehicle specific inputs for the ACD system are, and everything written in the book becomes sales talk alike. Nevertheless, with respect to Tudor Jones, I do agree with his compliment of Chapter 7 (The ACD version of Ripley's Believe it or Not) that it "presents incredible, real stories from the trading pit. Experienced traders will see themselves and their flaws in these stories, while novices can learn from these professional traders' mistakes". However, how can one single chapter compensate the cost of the whole 8 chapter book? p.s. 1. Suprisingly, the domain mentioned in the book ...is registered but not in operation yet. 2. The "meat" of Chapter 7 include: - Good News/Bad Action: When the news is good and the market just does not rise correspondly, sell. - I have no clue: When a market goes up or down for no apparent reason, it tends to go a lot further int hat direction than people can imagine. - Be the house: The more time you spend at the tabls, the more bets you are going to place, and the greater the probability that you will eventually walk out of the casino as a loser. The casino would rather not have someone make a single large wager and, win or lose, immediately walk away. - Next!: An important rule of trading is that time is much more important than price. If the market doesnt move your way within a short time of putting on a trade, just get out.
Rating: Summary: VERY INTERESTING Review: I would not consider myself a "professional" trader, rather someone who can afford to be fascinated by the financial markets. I glanced through the recent "new" trading book releases and stumbled upon this book. Immediately, I was impressed by Paul Tudor Jones foreword. Paul Tudor Jones is the Michael Jordan of trading in the United States. For him to write this foreword, Mr. Fisher must be the real deal. Reading the book, I was very fascinated by Mr. Fisher's ability to understand how people react when trading the markets, I almost thought he was a psychologist. However, I found out he is not, just a legend in the new york trading pits. I researched Mr. Fisher and his company MBF Clearing Corp. through some friends of mine and via their website mbfcc.com. Apparently, Mr.Fisher and the people he employs are "Michael Jordan's" themselves. Finally, I also researched how to trade the energy markets and found out that they can be traded electronically over the internet. I now have increased my trading and profits trading the energy mini contracts online. Thanks to Mr. Fisher for introducing me to a new, profitable trading vehicle. Goodbye to CNBC, the stock bubble and its' analysts who don't know how to trade just give bad advice. I look forward to meeting Mr. Fisher and his trading team at one of his seminar's.
