Rating: Summary: A & L 5 th edition Review: As an educator in radiography, I have found this book to be extremely useful. For the past four years my students have used it as an addition resource guide in Procedures class. They have also found this book to be their best aid in preparing for the national registry. The book covers the entire core areas need for the ARRT examination. The students like the fact that they can review material over and over and take practice examinations. They also especially like the CD that is included with the text. The registry is computerized, and it is good to practice in a format similar to the real thing.
Rating: Summary: An excellent resource to use as a registry study guide. Review: As an educator in the Radiology Technology field, I have found this book to be a key aide in preparing for the national registry. It has a simple format to understand. It is divided into the major sections that individuals will actually see on the registry examination. This fact alone has an impact on passing the registry the first time. The questions are easy to read and to understand with all possible answers being fully explained. It is a must for anyone seriously studying for the registry exam.
Rating: Summary: Buy it for the CD-ROM. Review: I just took the registry exam in April of 2004. Honestly, I didn't use this book all that much. There are so many typos that it is hard to read and some of them change the meaning of the questions. Some of the questions contradict each other. Some say to use gonadal shielding on all exams on all patients - even pelvis routines. Others will say the right answer is to only use it when the gonads are within a certain distance from the primary beam or when shielding won't interfere with imaging the pertinent anatomy. That makes it difficult to study. I did use the CD-ROM that was included. It helped me to know how I would do on the actual exam. For instance, it helped me to know that I needed to slow down and read the whole question.
Rating: Summary: A&L 5th Edition Very Disappointing! Review: I purchased this review to help prepare for the ARRT Reinstatement exam following my return to the field, and though I felt that it covered the core content well I was extremely disappointed that so many of the questions, both in the book and on the CD-ROM, had incorrect answers. The expanation of the answers even explained HOW the *correct* answer was incorrect!! Maybe the editors should have taken a little more time! I became very frustrated with this and gave it up for a (more expensive and much more worth it) Kettering Review. Would never recommend this review... especially to new grads taking the ARRT for the first time!!
Rating: Summary: Amazing Text- 60% of test questions were word for word Review: I was a little apprehensive about taking the computerized exam, but after studying out the the PREP text and taking the exams in this book, i felt confident. However, when i took the test, i realized that i had seen the majority of questions from the practice tests. I knew the answers before i finished reading the questions. I passed the registry easily. On the other hand, there are several versions of the computer test and other class members of mine received far different questions. All and all the book gave a great feel for the quality and level of difficulty of test questions. HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED.
Rating: Summary: Mary Review: Just took the registry in May 2004. This study guide was of very little use. The questions on the real registry are structured totally different than the way the book presents the material. Very little positioning questions or anatomy on the real registry. Only about 40% of the registry questions are covered in this book. Keep your textbooks and save your money.
Rating: Summary: DISAPPOINTED--4TH ED. Review: Our program has used this review book for 3 editions and liked it. Our students who began using the new 4th ed. complained that there were NO references to Bontrager in the anatomy and positioning sections. We use Bontrager as our primary textbook and the elimination of this major radiography text as a reference is disappointing and puzzling. Our students are also encouraged to buy Merrill's and the majority do. The students use the 9th ed of Merrill's and the refs are for the 8th ed. Merrill's has been out for over a year. The majority of refs were for a new book by Cornuelle. How are students suppose to find information in a text that is only in the library and one that is not a major textbook in use at this time (at least we know of nobody who uses it)? The author has done a major disservice to radiography students. As a result, we will not use this text any longer.
Rating: Summary: Really prepared me for the ARRT exam! Review: Questions well written in manner similar to ARRT exam. Answers were excellent explanations that really enhanced the review!
Rating: Summary: Highly recommended workbook & CD! Review: This book is the Greatest. I used it in conjunction with "Prep" Program Review & Exam Preperation, also by D.A. Saia. Prep gave me a refresher review. The 4th edition w/CD-Rom was the backbone of my efforts. It is thourough and comprehensive. There are some errors in question answers, however they are minor. With 1,400 questions, all on CD, you can go over & over the material until you feel comfortable in all areas. After taking the ARRT exam I knew I bought the right books. I felt comfortable with the Computer foremat and although some questions on the exam were unfamiliar, I felt well prepared for the exam. I had been out of the field for 30 years. I graduated X-Ray Tech school in 1960. Dropped out of ARRT Registry in 1982. I passed my exam with a 89. I used only the the two books indicated and a current Medical Dictionary. Thankyou D. A. Saia! You helped to make it happen for me. I am currently employed as a Registered Radiologic Technologist.
